Meenava Nanban

Meenava Nanban (lit.'Fisherman's friend')[1], is a 1977 Indian Tamil-language film directed by C. V. Sridhar, starring M. G. Ramachandran in the lead role, with Latha, M. N. Nambiar, Nagesh among others enacting supporting roles.

Plot

Kumaran (MGR), a nice adventurer comes to take the defense of the fishermen exploited by Nagaraj (V. K. Ramaswamy), the notable of the place.

Kamaili (Latha), his daughter will fall in love with Kumaran. Together, they will continue the fight against the injustice.

Production

It was the second and last collaboration of MGR with the director C. V. Sridhar, after Urimaikural (1974).[2] Meenava Nanbanwas the second film to feature MGR in the role of a fisherman after Padagotti (1964).[3] Actor and director Santhana Bharathi who worked as assistant director recalled that another famous director P. Vasu joined as assistant in the film's unit.[4]

Soundtrack

Soundtrack was composed by M. S. Viswanathan and lyrics written by Muthulingam, Vaali and Pulamaipithan.[5] Muthulingam recalled that MGR came to know that he did not write any song, he insisted him to write the song "Thangathil Mugam Eduthu" which became a classic.[6] The song "Pongum Kadalosai" is based on Valaji raga.[7]
