Formed through a merger of Manukau City and Mangere United in 2018, Manukau United currently play in the NRFL Premier.[1]
Recent history
The club was founded as Manukau City in 1964, growing over the years into a club with 200 people involved across 13 teams.
They have had to overcome "significant adversity" over the years due to deficient funds.[2] The club's best season in the Chatham Cup came in 2012, when they reached the quarter-finals, but the away trip to Caversham in Dunedin left the club struggling for funds.
The club were consigned to the lower leagues after winning just two of 22 matches in 2014,[3] but recovered to become champions of the 2016 Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division Two under the management of former national coach Kevin Fallon.[4]
