Maharaja Agrasen University

Maharaja Agrasen University is a university located at the HIMUDA Education Hub, near the village Kallujhanda, District Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India.[1] It was founded by Nand Kishore Garg in the town of Barotiwala in 2013. Maharaja Agrasen University was inaugurated by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India on 25 May 2013. The university established under Maharaja Agrasen (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2012 (Act. No. 15 of 2013) is in the picturesque backdrop of Kasauli Hills.

Campus

MAU Campus

Maharaja Agrasen University administrators began a long-term effort to strengthen Maharaja Agrasen University's reputation both nationally and internationally. Interdisciplinary work was emphasized, as was recruiting diverse faculty and their initiative Reaches Goal Early.[2]

The campus spans 16 acres (0.065 km2). The hilly environments surrounding parts of the campus help make the university's transforming influence. The university promises to equip all students with knowledge and talent to lead their lives in righteous and conscientious manner.

Academics

Admin Building

Maharaja Agrasen University University has five schools for undergraduates and postgraduates: the Institute of Technology, the School of Architecture & Design, the School of Management, the School of Law, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Humanities, and the School of Applied Science.[3]

The university's special academic facilities include a Library, language lab, computer centre, the university auditorium, Open Theatre, the playground, a gym, a forensic lab, moot court, and legalaid clinic.

Curriculum

Maharaja Agrasen University offers 10 arts, commerce, law and sciences programs, four engineering programs, two management programs and one architecture program, which allows students to design their own interdisciplinary programs in arts, commerce, law & sciences, and IDEAS, which allows students to design their own engineering program.

Skill Development Centre

The university signed MoU with IL & FS on 14 March 2014 in the area of skill development under the Star Scheme of National Skill Development Council (NSDC) Government of India. This scheme will be free of cost for all participants. It contemplates that the students in the vicinity of the university who had discontinued their education will be facilitated under the same scheme.

Entrepreneurship Development Centres

The mission of the EDCs is to develop institutional mechanism, to create entrepreneurial culture to foster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the faculty and students of the university.

Student life

Residential life

Maharaja Agrasen University requires its students to live on campus for the first four years of undergraduate and two years of postgraduate life. This is part of an administration effort to help students connect more closely with one another and sustain a sense of belonging in the Maharaja Agrasen University community.

Students can choose to reside on either campus or outside campus, although the majority of students choose to live on campus. Campus provides housing for over 450 students in hostel buildings.

Activities

Maharaja Agrasen University organized a two-day National Seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in its campus. The Seminar was organised in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Commerce and Management Association (HPCMA). Prof. A.D.N. Bajpai was the chief guest of the seminar and gave a vivid picture of social activities undertaken by the Himachal University in his tenure.

Sports

The outdoor sport facilities of Maharaja Agrasen University consist of cricket playground, badminton court and basketball court. The indoor sport facilities are the campus gym, boys hostel gym, girls hostel gym, table tennis and badminton court. The campus presents a lively atmosphere at all times.

Students are encouraged to display their talents in sport events, and these are organized entirely by students themselves. Many of these students have won awards at competition

The playing grounds and gyms are in the charge of Physical Education Department. The sport facilities are open to not only the university students but also the faculty members.

Partner universities

Memoranda of understanding (MoUs) have been signed with Auburn University, University of Leicester, University of Colombo, and Ghana Technology University College in Ghana.[4]

Approval

Like all universities in India, Maharaja Agrasen University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (India) (UGC), which has also sent an expert committee[5] and accepted compliance of observations and deficiencies.[6]
