Mahaisawan Road

Mahaisawan Road (Thai: ถนนมไหสวรรย์, RTGS: Thanon Mahaisawan, pronounced [tʰā.nǒn mā.hǎj.sā.wǎn]) is a short road and intersection in Bangkok. It's starts at Mahaisawan intersection in the area of Dao Khanong sub-district, Thon Buri district and runs through Bukkhalo intersection and links with Krungthep bridge across Chao Phraya river to Phra Nakhon side (east bank of river) and end at Thanon Tok intersection which meet Charoen Krung and Rama III roads in Bang Kho Laem sub-district, Bang Kho Laem district.

Krungthep bridge carry the Mahisawan road across Chao Phraya river from Thonburi (west bank) to Phra Nakhon sides (east bank)

Its name after Phraya Mahaisawan (พระยามไหสวรรย์) or Ko Sombatsiri (กอ สมบัติศิริ), a first governor of Thonburi province (now Thonburi side).[1]

For Mahaisawan intersection, which is four-way of Somdet Phra Chao Tak Sin, Ratchadaphisek and Mahaisawan roads beneath Rama III bridge, it original appearance is only three-way. But later on, Ratchadaphisek road was expanded to become a four-way like today[1]. This intersection is considered one of the most traffic jam routes of Bangkok. On September 30, 2016, a tunnel underpass was opened after construction on October 11, 2011, taking almost five years to build. This tunnel is the longest underpass of Bangkok, with a length of 1,515 m (0.9 mi) and width 17 m, with four traffic lanes, high five m, with a construction budget of 969 million baht after project since 2001.[2]
