Magdalena Andersson (Social Democrat)

Eva Magdalena Andersson (born 23 January 1967) is a Swedish Social Democratic politician who has served as Minister for Finance since October 2014.

Education

Andersson was educated at Stockholm School of Economics and pursued graduate studies there from 1992 to 1995.

Career

Andersson was employed in the Prime Minister's Office as political advisor from 1996 to 1998 and as director of planning from 1998 to 2004. She was state secretary in the Ministry of Finance 2004–2006 and domestic policy adviser to party leader Mona Sahlin from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2012, she was Chief Director of the Swedish Tax Agency after being appointed to her current position by the Reinfeldt Cabinet. On the decision of the coalition partners, the Finance Ministry was divided in two; Andersson became Finance Minister, while Per Bolund was put in charge of financial markets and consumers.[1]

Andersson is married to Richard Friberg, a professor in economics, with whom she has two children.
