Construction timeline

MSC Seaview constructed at the Fincanteri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy and built in 2018 with $12.4 billion investment,[5] The cruise ship has a tonnage of 153,516 GT[6] and accommodates 5,179 travelers and 1,413 crews with the length of 1,060 ft and a beam of 134 ft.[7] It also features 2,066 guest cabins, 759 crew cabins, and 43,500m2 spaces.[8] On 16 October 2015, MSC Cruises performed the steel cutting of what would be their second Seaside-class ship.[9] In July 2016, MSC Cruises announced that the name of their second Seaside-class ship would be MSC Seaview.[10] Her keel laying and coin ceremony was on 2 February 2017.[11][12] On 23 August 2017, MSC Seaview was floated out from the Fincantieri shipyard[13] and began her sea trials on 23 April 2018.[14]

The ship was delivered to MSC Cruises on 4 June 2018[15] and was christened by Sophia Loren on 9 June 2018 at a ceremony in Genoa.[15][16][17]

The Daily Telegraph rated MSC Seaview as 9/10,[18] and ranked by USA Today as the sixth largest cruise ship in 2019.[19]

Service and deployments

MSC Seaview spent her maiden season in the Western Mediterranean before repositioning to Santos, Brazil later that year to serve MSC's South America program during the fall and winter seasons,[14] and at 2019 the ship was hosted in the same location.[20] On 9 December 2019, the ship alongside MSC Bellissima made a maiden visit in Doha.[21] She performed this rotation until being redeployed to Dubai to cruise the Persian Gulf in Fall 2020.[22]

Incidents

On 21 June 2019, an Irish national jumped overboard and a crew member was praised for the quick actions of saving the passenger. They were later brought back on board and sent to a local hospital.[23]

Coronavirus Pandemic

During the coronavirus pandemic, 10 crew members aboard MSC Seaview had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.[24] Subsequently, the ship entered quarantine at the Port of Santos on 30 April 2020.[24] On 5 May 2020, Empresa Brasil de Comunicação reported that there were 80 confirmed cases of the virus at that point, with another 30 suspected cases, out of a total of 615 crew members aboard.[25] Later that day, the number of confirmed cases rose to 86.[26]
