M. M. Akbar

Meleveettil Muhammad Akbar (Malayalam: മേലേവീട്ടില്‍ മുഹമ്മദ് അക്ബര്‍) is a Salafi preacher,[1] an Islamic scholar,[2][3] a religious orator[3] and an expert in comparative religion.[4] He is the founder Director of Niche of Truth,[4][5] an Islamic missionary organization based in Kerala[4] and the editor of Sneha Samvadam magazine published from Kochi, Kerala, India.[6] Niche of Truth has created the first website in Malayalam,[7] about the life of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.

Akbar is a graduate in Physics.[6] He has authored 38[4] books of which 20[4] are in comparative religion.[4][8][9] He is the managing director of Peace International School, a chain of 13 schools run by the Peace Foundation. The chain came under controversy as it was found to be promoting communal division through its syllabus [10][11]


The Kerala government ordered closure of the Peace schools In January 2018 [12] and issued a look out notice for Akbar. Kochi police arrested him on 25 February 2018.[13]

The Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan ordered the closure of the Peace school foundation after taking into consideration the reports submitted by the Education Secretary and the Collector on the objectionable content taught in the school.
