In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five–for" or "fifer")[2] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement,[3] and As of 2017 only 45 bowlers have taken at least 15 five-wicket hauls at international level in their cricketing careers.[4] James Anderson, an English cricketer has taken 28 five-wicket hauls in international cricket.[4][5] A right-arm fast-medium bowler, Anderson has played 151 Tests and 194 One Day International (ODI) matches for his country, and has taken 584 and 269 wickets respectively.[5][6] He was honoured with the NBC Denis Compton Award for "The Most Promising Young Player" in 2002,[7] and the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack named him one of their cricketers of the year in 2009.[8] In 2013, former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram described him as "the best bowler of this era".[9]
