List of current champions in WWE

WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion based out of Stamford, Connecticut. Title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler, as a result of the culmination of various scripted storylines.

WWE divides its roster between five brands, where wrestlers exclusively compete, albeit with some exceptions. The three primary brands that WWE promotes are Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.[1] Specialty brands include 205 Live, which is for male wrestlers 205 lbs. and under (designated by WWE as cruiserweights), and NXT UK, which is for wrestlers based in the United Kingdom—these two specialty brands are promoted under the umbrella of NXT.

Raw, SmackDown, and NXT each have a primary and secondary championship for male wrestlers, a singles championship for female wrestlers, and a tag team championship for male wrestlers. There is also one tag team championship for female wrestlers that is shared between the three brands. There is one championship for the cruiserweight wrestlers that is shared between NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live, which is the only championship with a weight limit in the promotion, and one male singles, one female singles, and one male tag team championship for NXT UK wrestlers. There is also one tertiary championship, which is accessible to anyone, regardless of gender or WWE status.

There are currently 18 championships in WWE. Among the five current brands, 24 wrestlers hold the championships (including an interim champion, and a double champion) as of June 27, 2020. The list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout.

Current champions

Men's singles

At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers are the WWE Championship on Raw, the Universal Championship on SmackDown, and the NXT Championship on NXT. The WWE Champion is Drew McIntyre, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Brock Lesnar during WrestleMania 36 Part 2 that aired on tape delay on April 5, 2020; the event was taped on March 25 and 26, though it is currently unknown which day this match took place.[2] The Universal Championship is held by Braun Strowman, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Goldberg during WrestleMania 36 Part 1 that aired on tape delay on April 4, 2020; the event was taped on March 25 and 26, though it is currently unknown which day this match took place.[3] The NXT Championship is held by Adam Cole, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: XXV on June 1, 2019.[4]

Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the United States Championship on Raw, the Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown, and the North American Championship on NXT. The United States Championship is held by Apollo Crews, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Andrade on the May 25, 2020, episode of Raw. The Intercontinental Championship is held by first-time title holder AJ Styles, who defeated Daniel Bryan during the June 8, 2020 tapings of SmackDown (aired June 12) in the finals of a tournament for the vacant title; previous champion Sami Zayn was stripped of the title after electing to refrain from competing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The North American Championship is held by first-time champion Keith Lee, who defeated Roderick Strong on the January 22, 2020 episode of NXT.[5]

Men's tag team

Tag team championships for male wrestlers include the Raw Tag Team Championship, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, and the NXT Tag Team Championship. The Raw Tag Team Championship is held by The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford), who are in their first reign. They won the title by defeating Seth Rollins and Murphy in a last chance match on the March 2, 2020 episode of Raw.[6] The SmackDown Tag Team Championship is held by The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods), who are in their record sixth reign both as a team and individually;[7] they are all recognized as champion under the Freebird rule. Big E won the title for his team by defeating previous co-champion The Miz (representing himself and John Morrison) and Jey Uso (representing The Usos) by pining Miz in a triple threat match on the April 17, 2020 episode of SmackDown. The NXT Tag Team Championship is held by Imperium's Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner, who are in their first reign. They defeated former champion Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher (who was substituting for Pete Dunne) on the May 13, 2020 episode of NXT.

Specialty

The WWE 24/7 Championship is a tertiary championship shared across all five brands and is open to anyone regardless of gender (including non-WWE personnel). It can be defended anytime, anywhere, as long as a WWE referee is present. The current champion is Akira Tozawa, who is in his second reign. He won the title by pinning R-Truth during the June 17, 2020 taping of Raw (aired June 22); Truth was originally scheduled to defend the title against Tozawa in a regular match, but Truth was attacked by Bobby Lashley, after which, Tozawa pinned Truth.

The NXT Cruiserweight Championship is the only championship of the 205 Live brand and is also defended on NXT and NXT UK. It is for wrestlers 205 lb (93 kg) and under (referred to as cruiserweights); the only championship in WWE with a weight limit. The title is held by Jordan Devlin from NXT UK, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating former champion Angel Garza, Travis Banks, and Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, who Devlin pinned, in a fatal four-way match at Worlds Collide on January 25, 2020.[8] Due to a travel ban as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Devlin is unable to defend the title. An interim champion is serving as titleholder in the United States until Devlin's return. Santos Escobar is the current interim champion in his first reign. He won the title (under the persona of El Hijo del Fantasma) by defeating Drake Maverick in the interim championship tournament final during the May 27, 2020 tapings of NXT (aired June 3).

Women's

At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers are the Raw Women's Championship, the SmackDown Women's Championship, and the NXT Women's Championship. The Raw Women's Championship is held by Asuka, who is in her first reign. She won the title by winning the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match on April 15, 2020, which aired as part of the Money in the Bank event on May 10; on the May 11 episode of Raw, previous champion Becky Lynch, who announced her hiatus due to pregnancy, revealed that the ladder match was actually for the championship instead of the regular contract granting a championship match. The SmackDown Women's Championship is held by Bayley, who is in her second reign. She won the title by defeating Charlotte Flair on SmackDown on October 11, 2019.[9] The NXT Women's Championship is held by Io Shirai, who is in her first reign. She won the title by defeating previous champion Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley, who Shirai pinned, in a triple threat match at TakeOver: In Your House on June 7, 2020.[10]

The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is the only tag team championship for female wrestlers in WWE, and is shared between the Raw, SmackDown, and NXT brands.[11] It is held by Bayley and Sasha Banks from SmackDown, who are in their record-tying second reign. They won the title by defeating Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross during the May 26, 2020 tapings of SmackDown (aired June 5).[12]

UK

The top title of NXT UK is the NXT United Kingdom Championship. It is held by Walter, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Pete Dunne at TakeOver: New York on April 5, 2019, ending Dunne's reign at 685 days.[13] The NXT UK Women's Championship is held by first-time title holder Kay Lee Ray, who won the title by defeating Toni Storm at TakeOver: Cardiff on August 31, 2019.[14] The NXT UK Tag Team Championship is held by Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang), who are in their first reign.
