List of accolades received by The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a 2014 comedy film written and directed by Wes Anderson. It is based on a story by Anderson and Hugo Guinness, inspired by the writings of Stefan Zweig, featuring an ensemble cast. The film stars Ralph Fiennes as a concierge who teams up with one of his employees (Tony Revolori) to prove his innocence after he is framed for murder.[1]
An international co-production,[2] The Grand Budapest Hotel premiered as the opening film of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Grand Prix. Fox Searchlight Pictures released the film in theaters on March 7, 2014,[3] and it grossed $174 million worldwide on a $25 million budget.[4] The Grand Budapest Hotel received widespread acclaim from film critics, many of whom included it on year-end top-10 lists.[5] Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, surveyed 274 reviews of the film and judged 92 percent to be positive.[6]
The film garnered nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director (which were won by Birdman, tying The Grand Budapest Hotel for both the most nominations and wins of the ceremony). The Grand Budapest Hotel won the Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design and Best Original Score.[7] The film led in BAFTA nominations, with 11, including Best Actor for Fiennes, Best Director, and Best Film. It won in the same categories as it did at the Oscars, as well as for Best Original Screenplay.[8] The film won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globe Awards, with three other nominations,[9] and it received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.[10] Alexandre Desplat won Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.[11]
