List of Life - Fear Not episodes
Mediacorp Channel 8's television series Life - Fear Not is a socio-drama series produced by Mediacorp Singapore in 2015 and 2016. The story is set against the backdrop of a traditional inn called “Rest House”. Through trials and tribulations, the characters learn that life is a bittersweet journey of happiness and pain, and that as long as they lead a fulfilling life, their fears are insignificant.
The show will begin airing on Mediacorp Channel 8 in Singapore from 19 October 2015.

| Zhuang Daoren (Aloysius Pang) is selling jade in the streets. Meigui (Carrie Wong) mistakes him for a conman and is about to arrest him when screams pierce the air: “Robbery! Robbery!” Meigui ties Daoren’s hand to hers and goes after the robber. She nabs Yishou (Zhang Yaodong), who has just been released from prison, but it turns out to be a case of mistaken identity. Daoren returns to the inn his family runs and tries to pull a prank on his father, Shuiqing (Chen Shucheng), who is taking a nap. Just then, Boss Cai turns up for the free green bean soup offered by the inn. Yishou discovers his family has moved away and left no forwarding address or other contact. He takes out all his money and counts up only $80. Daohan (Felicia Chin) passes by and drops her wallet accidentally. Yishou picks it up and decides to keep it. Daohan plans to break up with her boyfriend, and asks him not to pick her up. Unable to hail a taxi to ferry her to work, she asks Jinbin (Yusuke Fukuchi) for a lift but is turned down. Daohan manages to get to her office in Lin Dashou (Brandon Wong)’s taxi, but discovers her wallet missing. Coincidentally, she meets Jinbin, who yet again refuses to help her. A pair of youngsters who look like lovers checks into the inn. The manager, Lin Jiajia (Chen Liping), stalls for time and calls the school principal, only to realise the two youngsters are siblings. Boss Cai turns up and surprises everyone by offering the inn a box of fish heads. | |||

| Daoqiang (Rayson Tan) is the vice principal of Zhi Li Secondary School. One day, he is doing volunteer work in the school garden with Jiajia when a fire breaks out in the storeroom. He rushes to the scene and manages to catch the alleged arsonist. Daoqiang likes Jiajia, but does not dare to tell her so. Shuiqing encourages him to ask her out on a date. Yishou is unable to get a job because of his criminal record. He visits Uncle Wang and feels bad the latter needs to be in a wheelchair as a result of the incident that had put Yishou behind bars. Yishou turns up at the inn for free green bean soup and cannot help but order a few dishes as well. He stops himself from using the money in Daohan’s wallet and offers to work to pay for what he has eaten. Jiajia turns him down. Desperate, he takes out Daohan’s wallet to get some money. Jiajia’s suspicions are aroused by the feminine wallet in his hands. Yishou decides to stay the night at the inn, as he craves for a good bath. Daoqiang realises it was the janitor who had caused the fire, as he was smoking in the storeroom. He cancels the punishment meted out to the troublemaker. | |||

| Daoqiang puts a movie ticket into Jiajia’s jacket, not knowing the particular jacket is Daohan’s. Daohan finds the tickets and assumes it is Jinbin who is trying to date her. She throws the tickets at Jinbin, who then assumes Daohan wants to ask him out. The misunderstanding ends on a sour note. Yishou returns to the garage where he had worked before his imprisonment and demands to be paid the remuneration owed to him. Going back to the inn, Yishou is confronted by Daoren and Jiajia, who demand to check his bag. Daohan’s wallet cannot be found therein. When Daoren demands to do a body search, Shuiqing stops him. Just as everyone’s frustration is rising, Daohan announces she has found her wallet. | |||

| Daohan asserts that her wallet was in the mailbox and has more than $20 extra in it. Guilt-stricken about maligning Yishou, Shuiqing invites him to dine with the family, but he rejects the offer. Jiajia suspects he put the wallet into the mailbox. Jiajia is displeased when Daoren asserts that Daoqiang must have skipped dinner at home because he has a date. Daoqiang waits in vain outside the theatre. When he discovers that Daohan had found movie tickets in her jacket, he realises he had blundered. Jiajia is disturbed when she hears Daoqiang gloating that it was due to a misunderstanding that his date did not turn up, and not because she does not like him. Yishou checks out of the inn and admits to Shuiqing that he had picked up Daohan’s wallet and used the money before returning it with interest. Shuiqing learns Yishou has no home to return to and offers him a job. Yishou reveals he is an ex-convict. Daohan assumes Jinbin is at the inn to look for her. | Jinbin dines with Shuiqing and his family. Daohan refuses to accept his explanation of their misunderstandings and leaves the table when he proposes a toast of tea as an apology. Jinbin and Daoren became buddies after Daoren risked his life to save Jinbin from an attack years ago. Daohan confirms that Daoqiang put the movie tickets into her jacket by mistake. She offers to help him, but he turns her down. Everyone objects to Shuiqing’s decision to hire Yishou. Shuiqing puts Yishou on probation for three months. One night, an intruder sneaks into the inn and is captured. Everyone assumes it is Yishou, but it turns out to be Sheng. The incident teaches them all not to jump to conclusions. | |||

| Daoqiang is unsure of Jiajia’s feelings for him but does not dare ask her directly. However, he takes Daohan’s advice and invites her out again. Lin Dashou thwarts his plans. Dashou has regarded Jiajia as his goddess since she sat in his taxi, and hopes to ask her out on a date. Even though she turns him down, he is persistent, and even gives Daoqiang the impression he is her new boyfriend. Daohan buys movie tickets in an effort to engineer a date for Daoqiang and Jiajia. He notices the tickets and assumes Jiajia has taken the initiative. Hence, he retrieves the movie tickets he has bought. A series of errors ends with Jiajia watching the movie with Dashou instead. Daoqiang is left waiting outside the cinema, all alone. When Dashou learns what happened, he thanks Daoqiang for helping him. Daoqiang is sad he does not seem to share an affinity with Jiajia. | |||

| Jiajia is clearly upset with Daoqiang. Shenlong (Zheng Geping) tries to persuade a dejected Daoqiang to buy a jade pendant to boost his love life. Daoqiang finds out Shenlong’s son is Guoli, and Shenlong is trying to sell the pendant to be able to buy school shoes for his son. Daoqiang buys the pendant, which leads Daoren and the others to assume he has lost his senses over love. Daoqiang gives the jade pendant to Jiajia. Though she tells him off for being old-fashioned, she is happy. Shuiqing decides to set off alone for a wedding overseas, as none of his children is willing to join him. Daohan meets Shenlong, who warns her that someone in her family who is going on a trip will meet with a mishap. Daoqiang gives Guoli a treat. They happen to meet Jiajia, who learns he had bought the jade pendant to help Guoli. She is insulted that the purpose of the jade is to “subdue” her. Daoqiang gives Jiajia a pair of shoes as an apology, only to learn it is bad luck to do so. | |||

| Jiajia rejects the shoes from Daoqiang. Back home, Daohan sneers at her brother. Shuiqing tells Daoqiang he needs to have thicker skin if he wants to succeed. Daohan and the others see Shuiqing off. Yishou calls for a taxi and is told off by Daohan, as Daoqiang has asked Dashou to drive Shuiqing to the airport. The Zhuangs are shocked to learn Shuiqing’ flight to Australia has crashed. Daohan blames Yishou for booking a seat on that flight for Shuiqing. Just as the family is preparing to travel the crash site, they discover Shuiqing still at home. Yishou had mistaken the date, and unwittingly saved Shuiqing’s life. He is thus deemed Shuiqing’s lucky star. The Zhuangs vow to treasure their happiness, as life is unpredictable. Daoqiang plucks up the courage to ask Jiajia out on a date. | |||

| Daoren meets a sexy girl, Lynn, in a lift. Lynn shouts “molest” when he refuses to give her money. Meigui, who already has a bad impression of Daoren, gives chase. Daoren has no choice but to give in to Lynn’s demands. Daoren relates what happened to Shenlong and the others. Shuiqing tells Daoren off for what he did. Daoren is angry with Meigui for harassing him and chases her away, even though Meigui wants to check into the inn. After their misunderstanding is sorted out, Daohan finds Jinbin easy to get along with. She learns he is unable to sleep because of his noisy neighbours, and invites him to stay at the inn for a few days. Jealous, Yishou claims Daoren has said all the rooms are fully booked. To Yishou’s dismay, Daohan starts dating Jinbin. Everyone is stunned when Daohan receives a frightful gift. | |||

| Shuiqing is sad that Daoren and Daohan seem to have attracted the wrong people. He is grateful when Jinbin offers to protect Daohan. The gift scare strengthens Daohan’s relationship with Jinbin. Daoqiang decides to adhere to Shuiqing’s rule of being a nice person. He insists on sending a drunkard home and is suspected of stealing the man’s mobile phone. Back home, Shuiqing reminds Daoqiang that one has to be prudent, even when being nice to others. Shenlong and others develop food poisoning after consuming the inn’s green bean soup. Daoren and Daohan blame the free soup for creating trouble for them and object to offering it. Shuiqing has to give in, as the majority votes to abolish the free soup project. Many people turn up and are disappointed that there is no free soup. | |||

| Ray stalks Daohan and issues the threat of an acid attack, in an attempt to get her to reconcile with him. She refuses, and he flings the acid. Jinbin is splashed by accident, and discovers the so-called acid is water. Ray threatens to kill himself, but Shuiqing and Daoren manage to talk sense into him. Meigui tails Lynn to the inn and works with Daoren to lead her into their trap. Turning the tables around, Lynn extorts $1000 from Shuiqing. Lynn goes shopping with the money and meets Ray. She tries to get money from him, but he captures her instead. | |||

| Daoren and Meigui tail Lynn and uncover Ray’s ill intent. Infuriated, he tries to knock Daoren down. Meigui stops him. Ray refuses to surrender himself to the police, in spite of Daoren and Meigui’s advice. Plagued by failure, he commits suicide. Meigui is devastated. Only then does Daoren find out Ray is her brother. Lynn is badly affected by Ray’s death, too, and hides in her room. Shuiqing has no choice but to call on her parents to tell them what she has been up to. Her parents check into the inn to keep her company. Daohan attends Ray’s funeral. His mother blames her for his death. Jinbin consoles Daohan. Daoren finds out Meigui did not attend the funeral. He visits her and realises she is not a real cop. | |||

| Lynn finally opens her room door to see Li’ai. Guangming tries to drag her home. She refuses to budge, and reveals he has molested her. Shuiqing and the others are shocked. To Lynn’s disillusionment, Li’ai urges her to forgive Guangming, to stave off the breakup of their family. Daoren tries to market his fengshui items and is convinced to rent half a shop to sell his goods. Shuiqing refuses to lend him any money. Daoren bails Meigui out. To thank him, she promises to lend him money and become his business partner. Lynn tells Guangming she knows he has a lover and asks him to leave the lover. He says he is unable to do so. | Troublemaker and Guoli play basketball in school during the holidays. Bored, they draw graffiti on the walls. The janitor uses a mobile phone to photograph them in action. When Wu Yanbin (Elvin Ng) reports for work, he finds that the school principal is his former colleague, Cui Dabao (Ben Yeo). He tells Dabao that Siman is studying overseas and that he had returned home first. The janitor shows Daoqiang the photos. Troublemaker declares he did everything by himself and nobody else was involved. Daoqiang wants to punish Troublemaker severely, but Yanbin speaks up for him and even suggests offering the wall for students to develop their creativity. Sam checks out, but absent-mindedly leaves his briefcase with an expensive watch in it. It goes missing. He asks Jiajia to help him find the watch, which is a memento. Yishou and Jinhua (Lin Meijiao) are the main suspects, as they had cleaned the room and changed the lightbulb. Jiajia tells her staff she hopes the culprit will put the watch into the mailbox by the next day. | |||

| Yishou is convinced Jinhua is the thief when he sees her buying a new computer for her daughter. Upon interrogation, she finally admits she had pawned the watch for her daughter’s sake. She begs him not to expose her, as she needs to feed her family. Yishou empathises. He asks Shuiqing for an advance and redeems the watch. Yishou is about to put the watch into the mailbox when Daohan appears. He quickly puts the watch back into his pocket. His sneaky behaviour makes Daohan suspect he is the thief. Jiajia asks Daohan to keep Yishou at the reception desk, so that she can search his room. A briefcase is found there. Yishou claims he had picked up the briefcase. Jiajia refuses to believe him and asks him for the watch. Yishou has no choice but to hand it to her. Shuiqing asks Yishou to leave. Yishou is sad Daohan refuses to trust him. Jiajia senses something amiss when the customer asserts that the briefcase is not his. She questions Jinhua, who reveals the truth. Everyone realises they have maligned Yishou. | |||

| Guilt-stricken about speaking unjustly against Yishou, Shuiqing hopes to get him to come back. However, Yishou has cut off all contact with everyone. The school opens up the wall for its students to develop their creativity. Troublemaker and the others scribble on the wall instead of treasuring the opportunity to make good. Yanbin is forced to clean the wall with white paint. Filled with remorse, Troublemaker and the others help out. Daohan’s superior, Jane (Eelyn Kok), does not like her new idea and demands that she amend it as instructed. However, the upper levels prefer Daohan’s original idea. Jane pretends to feel the same way. Infuriated, Daohan argues with Jane. Jinbin, who is just back from Taiwan, advises Daohan to be tolerant, with a view to her future. She breaks up with him. Hoping to save their relationship, he suggests a trip together. At the airport, Daohan spots Yishou, but is unable to talk to him as she is boarding her flight. | |||

| Meigui dreams of her father being harmed in an alley and wakes up in alarm. She sees her medicine by her bed, but decides not to take it. Her mother wants to take her to the clinic, but is locked in the room by her. Trying to leave, Meigui finds Daoren waiting for her. Her mother had asked him to escort her to the clinic. He assures her that if she goes for her follow-up sessions and takes her medicine, her mother will give her freedom to go out. Daoren and Meigui head for their new shop. To their horror, they discover they have been conned of $100,000. Daoren accompanies Meigui home, where her mother is being harassed by Jinshan (Bryan Chan). At the sight of them, Jinshan runs off. He is caught by Daoren, and reveals he is Meigui’s father. He had left for America with another woman years ago, and is returning now to visit Meigui and her mother. Shuiqing is upset Daoren has been cheated. He agrees to let the latter set up a stall in the inn to sell his goods. Dashou tells Daoren that someone has offered $15,000 for their goods. He collects the cheque, and finds the buyer is Shuiqing. | |||

| Chatting on the telephone, Jinshan seems to be talking to his grandson. Shuiqing catches him grabbing sweets from the reception counter. Jinshan lies that his blood sugar has been low and it is necessary for him to eat sweets. Daoren and Meigui take Jinshan shopping, and find his behaviour highly suspicious. Jinshan admits he has a family in America and that he has to go back. He apologises to Meigui. She is understanding, and suggests she help him reconcile with her mother. He turns her down, claiming he does not want to upset her mother. Meigui wants to carry on being Daoren’s business partner. Daoren confirms Jinshan is not Meigui’s father. Jinshan claims he is merely getting paid to do someone a favour. Daoren teaches Shuiqing how to use social media to track Daohan’s whereabouts. He finds out Shuiqing was the person who bought his goods. Shuiqing learns Daohan has left without a word. Daoren and Meigui’s mother make Meigui believe Jinshan is her father. He pretends to return to America. Shuiqing receives a call, saying Daohan has been kidnapped. | |||

| Yanbin, Daoqiang and Troublemaker each draw a picture on the wall. Troublemaker draws a chicken drumstick and says it is Guoli’s dream. During recess, everyone sees a box with Guoli’s name on it. When Troublemaker finds a chicken drumstick in the box, he is reminded of the graffiti wall. He encourages his classmates to treat the wall as a wishing wall. Yanbin notices Guoli throwing the chicken drumstick into the rubbish bin. Shenlong changes Dashou’s 4D ticket to give the latter the impression that he has won the first prize. Elated, Dashou buys a big sack of green beans for the inn to start providing free green bean soup again. He also resigns and organises a banquet for his neighbours and friends. During the banquet, Jinhua finds out Dashou did not win a prize. Shenlong admits to his prank. Yanbin deduces that Guoli has been molested by Daoqiang. He reports it to the principal, who insists Guoli is lying. Both Guoli and Dongxuan claim they were groped and Daoqiang was seen in the vicinity. Daoqiang decides to file a police report to clear his name. Daoqiang greets Jiajia’s parents, who are at the inn for their meal. Just then, Shenlong appears and lashes out at him for what he did to his son. Jiajia’s parents’ impression of Daoqiang changes, but Jiajia trusts him. | |||

| Shuiqing is happy the inn can once again provide free green bean soup. Many neighbours turn up to apologise for demanding medical compensation. Jiajia stops Shenlong from telling Shuiqing about the molest case. Shuiqing tries to mediate between Shenlong and Dashou, but Dashou refuses to give in. Dashou plays a prank on Shenlong and causes him to fall. Shenlong is hospitalised. Daoqiang is suspended from his duties. Troublemaker warns Guoli not to malign Daoqiang, but she insists she is telling the truth. Dongxuan stops Troublemaker from fighting with her and admits it was he who had played a prank on her. Yanbin overhears their conversation. The principal decides to expel Dongxuan, who is unrepentant. Yanbin offers to find another school for Dongxuan, but he does not want to attend school. When Yanbin learns Dongxuan wants to become a chef, he offers to introduce him to a friend who runs a restaurant. Daohan returns from her trip and tries in vain to find Yishou at the airport. She feels bad when she learns Jinbin has given up on their travels. When she tells Shuiqing she decided on a breakup because Jinbin is difficult to get along with, he asks her to reflect on herself instead. Yanbin learns Dongxuan has been killed in an accident while on the way to meet him. | |||

| Dongxuan’s death casts a pall on the students, who blame the school’s rules for his death. They go on strike and refuse to attend classes. Yanbin and Daoqiang encourage them to pull themselves together. After a match, they write messages on Dongxuan’s basketball and urge the school community not to forget their friendship. Yanbin catches a glimpse of Daohan and assumes she is Siman. He loiters in the streets, hoping to see her again. Hua-jie takes replacement meals and refuses to heed the advice of Jiajia or Shuiqing. Customers complain about Chef Liang’s slipshod manner. Shuiqing fires him. Jiajia is concerned about the business, but Shuiqing would rather do the cooking himself than be threatened by his staff. Daohan is popular as a campus DJ. When she is sent to the school to give a talk, Yanbin is finally reunited with “Siman”. | |||

| Yanbin does not believe Daohan is not Siman and even speculates she had an accident and lost her memory. Zhixiang (Ian Fang), too, claim she is Siman. Desperate, she takes Yanbin home with her, so that Shuiqing and the family could verify her identity. She is moved by his love for Siman. When he leaves, Daoren suggests Daohan become Siman’s replacement to console Yanbin. A maid brings the elderly person and the child under her care to the inn. Shuiqing laments that people do not realise maids cannot replace relatives. A disgruntled Liang gets his friends to order fishhead curry at the inn. He is peeved when Jiajia whips up the dish and earns praise from Shuiqing, Dashou and the others. Jinji often steals things and gives them to his friends. Zhixiang catches him in the act and reports to Yanbin. Making a visit to Jinji’s home, Yanbin finds himself being accused of being a thief instead. | |||

| The principal decides to suspend Yanbin of his duties. Troublemaker and the others ostracise Jinji and even refuse to celebrate his birthday. Daohan consoles Yanbin by going with him to places he had visited with Siman. Jiajia reminds her that she has already fallen in love with Yanbin. Daohan finds out that Yanbin babysits Tim, who is often alone at home. His kindness makes her like him even more. Like Hua-jie, Fu-sao (Michelle Tay) takes replacement meals. She is hospitalised with food poisoning. Jiajia and the others remind everyone to be careful about what they eat. Yanbin picks up a bottle with a boy’s birthday wish in it. The boy turns out to be Uncle Wang’s late son. Daohan is inspired to try to fulfil the birthday wish of another person. | |||

| Alone and lonely, Jinji ruins his birthday cake and food. He is pleasantly surprised when Yanbin, Daohan and the other students turn up to celebrate his birthday with him. Yanbin has also convinced Jinji’s mother to fly back from England. However, because his father did not return, Jinji flares up. His mother leaves in a huff. Daohan and Yanbin remind Jinji’s parents that Jinji needs their concern more than their money. Jinji is grateful when his parents promise to spend more time with him and his grandfather. He admits he had maligned Yanbin. Yanbin and Daoqiang convince the school to let Jinji return to school. This encounter deepens the admiration Yanbin and Daohan feel for each other, and their relationship blossoms. She is pleased when he expresses his feelings for her, but her happiness is short-lived. He soon receives news about Siman and rushes off. Daohan realises a replacement can never take the place of the original. | |||

| Yishou is delivering water when he meets a tomboy-like girl named Emily, who greets him and claims she is delivering letters. He goes into an office to change the water dispenser, and she goes into Mr Chen’s office. Mr Chen is pleased to see Yishou cleaning up the area after replacing the water. When Yishou is waiting for the receipt, he sees Emily sneaking into Mr Chen’s office and taking something from a pocket before hurrying off. Yishou rushes after Emily and asks her to return what she took. He even offers her the $50 he has in his pocket. Moved, she claims Mr Chen is her father. Fu-sao wants to go shopping in Johor, as the exchange rate for Ringgit is favourable. Dashou agrees to drive her there, but the normal charge will apply. Shuiqing and Daoren try to warn Dashou and Fu-sao of the dangers of driving into Johor but to no avail. Daoren wants Shuiqing to give his customers a 50% discount on the inn’s charges if they buy $100 or more of fengshui items from him. Mr Chen meets Yishou and asks for his watch. Yishou discovers that Emily had lied about being Mr Chen’s daughter. | |||

| Shuiqing feels dizzy. Daoren takes him to the clinic, where his blood pressure is found to be low. Jiajia tells Shuiqing to seek treatment early to avoid problems. He promises to do so. Jiajia changes a light bulb while standing on a new chair, and falls. She almost knocks Shuiqing over. Annoyed that the chair is made of inferior wood, he grumbles about the manufacturer skimping on materials. He reminds Daoren not to be dishonest in business. Yishou is fired. He receives a call from Emily, who asks to see him. Yishou is surprised Emily lives in a mansion. She claims her family is away and she is alone at home. When she learns he has only eaten cup noodles, she offers to cook for him. She does not seem to know where the utensils are kept, and justifies this by saying it is usually the maid who handles such chores. Emily asks Yishou whether he has a girlfriend. He reveals his girlfriend left him after he went to prison and the person he now likes belongs to a different world. Emily assumes he is talking about her. | Shuiqing buys a work of calligraphy from his friend for $8000. Daoqiang wants it authenticated, but Shuiqing trusts his friend will not cheat him. Fu-sao shows off her gold jewellery and attracts the attention of robbers. They accost her when she is in a back alley. When they discover the gold items are fake, they beat her up. Shenlong tries to save her and is beaten up too. His money is stolen. Jiajia advises Fu-sao not to wear so much jewellery when she goes out. Daohan goes to Cambodia with Yanbin to look for Siman. Not finding her, he decides to remain there. Daohan is already distressed by this development when she receives a call from Yishou. He has been arrested for trespassing because of Emily. Daohan bails Yishou out and asks him to return to the inn. He refuses. Emily apologises to Yishou and offers to make amends. She takes him to a food stall and tells him that her father had left it behind. Her brother used to manage it, but is now on the run because of his gambling debts. She suggests Yishou run a Hokkien Mee business there. Yishou is happy when Uncle Wang rents a room to him. | |||

| A middle-aged man pays for his bottle of mineral water with a $100 note. Meigui gives him change without checking the note, and only later realises it is counterfeit. Daoren promptly helps her spend it. Meigui gets upset and refuses to speak to him. Daoren is remorseful. He goes back to the pork seller and asks to exchange the note with a real one. However, the pork seller has used it to buy other things. The fake note ends up in Dashou’s hands after a few transactions. When Daoren asks Dashou for the note, the latter tells him that he had used it to buy Hokkien mee. Daoren finds Yishou selling Hokkien mee. When he finally gets the note back, he writes the word “conscience” on it, so that he will be reminded of the whole episode. He comes to the realisation that Shuiqing was right when he said everyone should live with a clear conscience. | |||

| Daoqiang buys a ring to propose to Jiajia, but has no idea how to do so. Daoren and Daohan encourage him to find a novel way to move her heart. Dashou laments that he is down on his luck. He drove a pregnant woman to the hospital and was caught speeding. To worsen matters, he also knocked into another car. Shuiqing consoles him. Fu-sao turns up and thanks Dashou for helping the pregnant woman, who is her sister. She gives him a big red packet, as the baby was delivered smoothly. Daohan tells Daoqiang the most romantic way to propose is to whip up a meal and enjoy the food together. Daoqiang prepares a meal in a hurry. For decoration, he uses the red cloth and candles meant for rituals. He eats the chestnut cake Jiajia has brought and develops symptoms of a food allergy, including a sore throat. Jiajia rushes Daoqiang to the hospital and takes care of him. He finally succeeds in getting her to agree to marry him. | |||

| Dashou sells to Daoren the goods Shuiqing had bought from him. Shuiqing finds out and is infuriated. Dashou insists the idea was Daoren’s. Dashou busies himself preparing to meet his rich girlfriend’s family in Thailand. He does not bother with Shuiqing and Daoren. Shuiqing wants Daoren to find a job, but the latter is adamant about dealing with his batch of goods first. A buyer wants to purchase Daoren’s entire consignment and even asks whether he has more. Meigui senses something amiss, but Daoren assumes his chance to earn big money has arrived. Daoren tries to buy additional things from Shenlong, who claims a buyer has swept up all his goods at a high price and Daoren has to pre-order if he needs anything. Meigui lends Daoren her savings. After buying 20 boxes of items, Daoren realises he has been conned. The buyer and seller are the same person. Sorely disappointed in Daoren, Shuiqing ignores him. Daoren draws up a contract agreeing to become Shuiqing’s slave. He promises to do anything he is told. Dashou returns from Thailand and relates how he was cheated by his girlfriend and robbed of everything. Luckily, he met a friend who helped him out. | Yishou takes Emily with him to try Hokkien mee at many different stalls, hoping to figure out the X-factor. Emily takes advantage of her good looks to help him. On the way back, Emily notices an old busker trying to attract attention and helps out by singing and playing the guitar. When Yishou probes, she reveals she was once in a girls’ home. Emily buys a fisherman’s cap for Yishou and asks him to wear it while selling Hokkien mee. She is annoyed when he gives in to an unreasonable customer over some change. Shuiqing witnesses the scene. He tries Yishou’s Hokkien mee and finds it does lack something. He encourages Yishou to keep experimenting. To create hype at Yishou’s stall, Daoren suggests they get Hua-jie and others to pose as tourists from Hong Kong. Shuiqing perfects the Hokkien mee recipe and informs Yishou. Yishou wants to enter Emily in a singing competition that Daohan is judging. He finds Emily suffering, because she went undercover at a food stall to suss out the secret behind delicious Hokkien mee. | |||

Jiajia and Daoqiang notice scraps of leftover food on the floor. They try in vain to persuade the culprit not to feed stray cats and dogs, in consideration of the environment. The students are told to sell booklets of coupons for charity. Hua-jie and Shenlong have to help their children, as they do not have the money to buy up the coupons. Daohan has nightmares when she is assigned a charity concert item, which involves heights. She asks for a change, and injures her palm. Jane tells her to skip instead. Daohan wants Jane to do both the heights and skipping together. Jiajia finds dead rats in the pot in the kitchen. | |||

| Shocked to find dead rats in the kitchen, Jiajia warns Hua-jie not to let anyone know, as that would ruin the inn’s reputation. She worries even more when Dashou mentions that no one has dared to patronise a food stall nearby since dead rats were seen there. Daoqiang learns Sweetie (Xiao Tiantian) has lost two booklets of coupons. Guoli finds two sold charity booklets in the vegetable garden and hands them to Daoqiang. He is angry when Daoqiang suspects he has sold the coupons but is keeping the money. Guilt-stricken, Sweetie finally admits it was she who used the money from the sold coupons, to buy ice cream for her siblings. As she is not able to make up the amount, Guoli, Troublemaker and Daoqiang help her out. Not knowing about the rat infestation, Shuiqing accepts Fu-sao’s buffet order. When Daoqiang and Jiajia inform him, he decides to shut down the kitchen until the rats have been eliminated. Fu-sao organises a potluck meal at the inn instead, for her friends and relatives. | |||

| Daoqiang is looking forward to a gathering of his friends, and Daoren, a reunion of ex-classmates. At the reunion, he lies that Meigui is from a wealthy family, and even kisses her to show off. Fuming, Meigui severs her ties with Daoren. He does not have a clue why she is so angry, until Daohan explains that Meigui is in love with him, which is the reason she is so upset about his lies. Guoli asks Shenlong for money for a gathering. Shenlong refuses to give him any, and asserts that the school should be paying for it. At the wedding of her ex-boyfriend, Daohan is peeved to be seated with all of the groom’s ex-girlfriends. Shuiqing’s ex-classmates turn up at the inn for a reunion. Daoren learns Meigui is drunk at a pub. He rushes over and rescues her. | |||

| Daoren waits outside Meigui’s house. When she appears, he apologises for hurting her and asking her to pose as his girlfriend. He learns she has a gathering of her own to attend, and offers to pose as her boyfriend. Meigui and her ex-classmates set out to do volunteer work at the home of an old lady with dementia. The lady’s husband has not returned since going out to sea many years ago. She mistakes Daoren for her husband and hugs him. Meigui tells Daoren that she and her ex-classmates regularly help the old lady, who is the mother of a classmate who died. Daoren reflects that he and his classmates are so childish compared to Meigui and her ex-classmates. Daoqiang knows Guoli wants to attend the class gathering, but has no money. He offers to pay the latter to decorate the school hall for an alumni gathering. Guoli gets Troublemaker and the others to help him. Daoren finds out Yaojing had lied about her boyfriend being a dentist, and that another classmate who boasted of his wealth owes loan sharks money. Unable to decide, Shuiqing calls for a family meeting. Daoren offers his ideas in the hope that Shuiqing would give him the go-ahead. Shuiqing agrees. | |||

Dashou almost chokes while eating grapes. Exasperated, Shuiqing decides to invite Try to help the inn. Try is the man who had reprimanded Daohan about the suitor. He brings in much business when he announces that he intends to buy over the inn. Things return to normal, and everyone realises what Try has done to help them. | |||

| Daoqiang is happily preparing for his wedding when Jiajia reveals that she had her first love’s baby but the baby died. Daoqiang is surprised, but asserts that they should not let the past affect them. He hopes she will put that experience aside and start anew. Shenlong cannot forget the girl he had a crush on in school. When he discovers Hua-jie went to the same school, he assumes she is his dream girl, Jinhua. A drunk Chu’er (Bonnie Loo) is taken to the inn by a man. Sensing something amiss, Jiajia saves her from being taken advantage of. She calls the family and is shocked to realise Chu’er’s father is her first love, Tiansheng. Shenlong sends an anonymous letter to Hua-jie and asks her out for a meal. Pleased, she decides to get a new outfit for the date. Fu-sao tells Dashou and Shenlong about the date. Shenlong does not dare admit that he wrote the letter. Tiansheng tells Jiajia that Chu’er is their daughter. Jiajia’s mother had given the baby to him and lied to Jiajia that the baby was dead. Jiajia collapses in tears when her mother confirms this. | |||

| An emotionally-charged Jiajia tells Chu’er she is her biological mother. To her surprise, the latter’s reaction is cold. Daoren finds out it is Shenlong who wrote the love letter to Hua-jie. Not wanting the date to be ruined, Shenlong asks Daoren for a solution. Daoren suggests booking the entire inn, so he can be alone with Hua-jie. Tiansheng is hoping to hand Chu’er over to Jiajia, as the girl does not get along with her stepmother. He slaps the defiant Chu’er, who runs off. Jiajia gives chase, and is almost run over by a car. Hua-jie is tickled when she finds out her date is Shenlong. When he describes how she had gone to his rescue in school, she realises he has the wrong person. Jiajia manages to convince Chu’er to return home with her. Daoqiang calls on Jiajia and meets Chu’er. Jiajia tries to tell him that Chu’er is her daughter, but Chu’er claims she is a tenant. | |||

| Shocked to learn Chu’er is Jiajia’s daughter, Daoqiang leaves in a hurry. Chu’er declares that Jiajia need not sacrifice her marital plans for her sake, but Jiajia insists Chu’er is her priority. Daoqiang does not want to lose Jiajia. He is willing to accept Chu’er and regard her as his own. He wants to proceed with the wedding, but Jiajia feels she is now not good enough to be Shuiqing’s daughter-in-law. Troublemaker puzzles over Xiaotian, who is inconsistent in her schoolwork and has suddenly started to write with her left hand when she used to be right-handed. Daoqiang, too, cannot comprehend why the standard of Xiaotian’s composition has dropped drastically, out of the blue. Shuiqing learns about Chu’er from Dashou. Objecting to Daoqiang becoming a stepfather, he quarrels with his son. Daoren takes Daoqiang to a bar. Daoqiang notices Chu’er there and saves her from two men. He is hit by the men. Shuiqing tells Jiajia what happened and advises her to let Daoqiang off. She confronts Chu’er and is infuriated when the girl retorts rudely. | |||

| Jiajia refrains from slapping Chu’er when she remembers that is what Tiansheng did. She assures Shuiqing she will not marry Daoqiang. Shenlong tells Shuiqing that Guoli is not his son. Shuiqing feels ashamed that he is not as magnanimous as Shenlong. Shuiqing decides not to object to the marriage after all. Daoqiang tells Jiajia the good news, but she replies that she wants to concentrate on being a good mother and they should just forget about the wedding. Daoqiang refuses to give up. Daoren makes Jiajia realise how important Daoqiang is to her by lying that Daoqiang has died in an accident. He hopes they can finally be together. However, when he sees her with a handsome guy, he gets anxious. Meigui explains that the guy is her client. She is pleased Daoren seems to care about her. Daoren learns Meigui’s father is back. Jinshan asks Meigui for money by lying that he has problems in his business. When Daoren confronts him, Jinshan reveals his child is ill and he has no alternative but to get money from Meigui. When Daoren threatens to call the police, he asserts that Meigui’s mother will get into trouble as well. Meigui discovers the truth, but lets Jinshan off. Meigui decides to accept a job in Australia on a three-year contract, as Daoren has not asked her not to leave. She is thrilled when he rushes to the airport to express his feelings for her. | |||

| Daohan uses someone else’s mobile phone charger at a shop and offends the charger’s owner, who turns out to be Try. She goes off with her foreign friends to tour Singapore and leaves her mobile phone at the shop. Try takes her phone home when he finds it on the counter. Fu-sao is upset her dog has gone missing. Everyone at the inn offers different ideas on how to find the dog. Daohan is sad when she cannot find her mobile phone. Advising her not to rely too much on her phone, her family members deduce that if the phone is not switched off, there is still a chance of getting it back. No one answers when Daohan uses Shuiqing’s mobile phone to call herself. Upset, she sends messages to her mobile phone with offers of rewards, as well as threats. Amused by the antics, Try soon finds out the phone belongs to Daohan. The next day, Daoren offers to help Daohan find her mobile phone by using a special app. They go on a wild goose chase and end up back at the inn. | |||

| Daohan confronts Try when she finds out it was he who took her mobile phone. Daoren sows discord and leads Daohan to be mistaken about Try. She accepts his challenge to go on an overnight cycling date around the island. Jane makes her way to the inn to get some files from Daohan. She gets into Dashou’s taxi and is reminded of how he had picked on Daohan. She insists he should follow the GPS, and they end up taking a longer route. Daoqiang and Daoren are inconvenienced while Shuiqing is away, because they cannot seem to find their things. Daoren does the laundry, and the washing machine breaks down. Try and Daohan enjoy their first date, but they part earlier than planned when Daohan realises she has forgotten to send the files to Jane. When Daohan gets home, she tells Daoren off for messing up the house. She turns on the computer, only to find the electricity supply being cut off. | |||

| Unable to tolerate the heat, Daoren considers moving into one of the inn’s rooms, but the inn is fully booked. Daohan wants to take a bath and is peeved there is no hot water. Daoqiang helps her boil some water in the kitchen. Passing by, Shenlong notices the water boiling and assumes the Zhuangs are preparing free green bean soup. He adds in sugar and green beans. Not knowing this, Daohan takes the hot water for her bath. She starts using it in the dark and gets green bean soup all over her body. Jinji is sad his maid is going home. He tells his classmates she plays a more important role than his mother. Guoli cannot understand, as he yearns to have a rich mother. Guoli returns home and learns his mother, Mei’e (Hong Huifang), has returned to take him with her. Panicking, he runs away. Mei’e tries to convince Guoli to leave with her. Shenlong pretends to be indifferent, even though he cannot bear the thought of Guoli leaving. Knowing Shenlong is a messy and careless person, Guoli pastes Post-it notes all over the house to remind him of the chores. Shenlong breaks down when he finally leaves. | |||

| Chu’er is Lynn’s classmate at the polytechnic. Lynn finds out Chu’er’s mother is Jiajia. As Lynn needs money, Chu’er asks Jiajia for some. Jiajia refuses, and their relationship sours. Daoqiang offers to help, but wants Chu’er to fulfil his conditions. She senses that he is sincere, but pretends otherwise. Emily harasses Hua-jie to tell her everything about Yishou. Hoping Jiajia will let her stay at the inn, she offers to help out with the chores. Jiajia refuses initially, but changes her mind when she gets the mistaken impression that Emily is pregnant. Daohan is surprised Emily has moved into the inn. Presuming the baby’s father is Yishou, she tries to find out more. Emily spins another tale to convince her not to tell Yishou where she is. Chu’er learns Lynn is under threat because of her nude photographs. She records the conversation about the transaction and tries to make a police report. Unfortunately, she is caught by the blackmailer, who demands a ransom from Jiajia. Daoqiang is injured in a bid to save Chu’er. Chu’er finally accepts Daoqiang. | |||

| Daohan is disappointed her family seems to have forgotten about her birthday. She is thrilled when Shuiqing appears with a cake, out of the blue. Fu-sao and Dashou make plans for a Christmas party at the inn to cheer Shenlong up. Shuiqing does not approve of the Christmas tree that Daoqiang and Jiajia put up in the hall, as he thinks such celebrations of Western festivities are over-commercialised. Daoqiang realises Shuiqing is so against celebrating Christmas because his mother met with the accident on Christmas Eve. Feeling bad about neglecting Shuiqing’s feelings, he decides to put away the tree. Jiajia tries to think of a way to help Shuiqing get over his loss. Daoqiang and Jiajia buy a schoolbag for Xiaoqi, but she gives it to someone who needs it more. Impressed, Shuiqing gets a gift for her. Daohan is moved when Try poses as Santa Claus and brings joy to all the children. Shuiqing is happy as well, and is finally able to put his trauma behind him. He even suggests putting up the Christmas tree again. | |||

However, when Mei’e turns up and tells Shenlong off for spoiling her son, he has no choice but to make Guoli leave. Daoren wants to invest in a bird’s nest business overseas, but Shuiqing and his siblings object. Upset, he rants at Meigui. Jiajia promises to support Daoren. When Daoqiang reminds her that she may lose all her money, she asserts that she is willing to show support for his brother, as he has been good to Chu’er. Chu’er finally agrees to let Daoqiang marry Jiajia. Daomei (Aileen Tan) returns in time for the wedding and brings her five-year-old child, Joey. She hides when he appears. Emily tries to help Jinhua pick up ornaments that have fallen from the tree to the floor, but is unable to do so. Jinhua notices the dried goods and instant noodles Emily has bought and tells Daohan that she must be poor. Daohan picks up a wish card from the Christmas tree; it turns out to be Emily’s. She invites her to sing at the inn’s restaurant. Shenlong refuses to answer Guoli’s calls. Guoli sends him a text message, saying he has hung a packet of char kway teow on the gate. Shenlong stumbles upon a jade bangle at home. He remembers how Mei’e had miscarried when he snatched the bangle eight years ago, to gamble with. Mei’e refuses to accept Shenlong’s apology. He gets drunk, and Dashou gets Guoli to tend to him. Shenlong urges Guoli to take back the branded watch and study hard. Yishou rushes to the inn with a packet of noodles after receiving a message from Daohan. He learns it is Emily who yearns for the noodles. | |||

| Chu’er moves in with the Zhuangs. Shuiqing gives her a pair of shoes, which she finds old-fashioned. She wants to stay at Lynn’s place when Jiajia and Daoqiang are on their honeymoon, but Jiajia advises her to get along with everyone. Chu’er receives a jacket from Shuiqing and finds out Jiajia had lied about the shoes. Moved by his concern for her, she decides to wear both the shoes and the jacket. Shuiqing buys such a quantity of local delicacies for Daomei that she develops gastric pains. When he learns Joey likes a toy, he buys three for the boy. He then carries Joey all the way home, and sprains his back as a result. Yishou picks up a bottle by the beach and finds an “I love you” message therein. He realises it is Daohan’s. Fu-sao is incensed when Dashou accidentally kills her dog. She is running after him when Emily returns and almost trips. Anxious, he announces that Emily is pregnant. Emily does not deny her pregnancy when Yishou questions her. She is moved when he promises to take care of her until she has delivered her baby. Yishou loses the message that was in the bottle. Emily sees someone picking up the letter at the inn’s restaurant. | |||

| Daomei prepares two types of cupcakes. Yishou, who likes the cupcakes, asks if she wants to take in an apprentice. He hopes Emily learn how to make cupcakes and be able to earn a living in future. Daomei comes to realise Emily’s hands are weak. Jinhua finds stained sanitary pads in Emily’s room and worries she may miscarry. Emily refuses to see a doctor. Yishou finds out Emily has lied yet again and is not pregnant. Storming out, he meets Daomei, who tells him Emily may be unwell. They search her room and find her medical report, which confirms she is, indeed, seriously ill. Daren (Zhu Houren) appears at the reception when Shuiqing is on duty. Shuiqing assumes he is Ivy’s husband. Daren assures Daomei he will make everyone in her family like him. Ivy turns up at the restaurant and almost exposes Daren’s identity. Daohan asks everyone to support her in the “Dine With Your DJ” charity drive. She receives 100 stalks of flowers from Try on the occasion of their 100th day together. | Try picks up the wishing bottle and proposes to Daohan. Assuming he is her Mr Right, she accepts the proposal, only to learn he wants her to go overseas with him after the wedding. Feeling sorry for Yishou, Emily reveals it was he who first picked up the bottle. Daohan discovers Yishou has long been in love with her. Business at Daoren’s catering outlet is brisk. The kitchen is so shorthanded that even Shuiqing has to help out. Daren teaches Shuiqing and the others many ways to save time. Daomei is pleased Shuiqing has a good impression of Daren. Exhausted from being up all night, sorting the inn’s customer information, Daren falls asleep at the reception. Shuiqing does not empathise. Daohan tells Shuiqing not to prepare the wedding invitations, as she is no longer getting married. She receives a message from Try about the bear and rushes out to the rubbish bin. However, the bear has disappeared. Jane asks Shuiqing to teach her calligraphy. She gets angry when Jinhua accuses her of being bent on swindling Shuiqing. Daohan and Daomei object to Shuiqing dating Jane. Shuiqing retorts that Daomei should now understand why he refuses to accept Daren as his son-in-law. Shuiqing goes to the park with Joey to cycle. | A misunderstanding leads everyone to assume Daren is dead. Judging from Daomei’s reaction, Shuiqing realises there is no way he can separate the couple. Daren is only pretending to be in a coma. Meanwhile, Chu’er wants to move out on her own. Aside from Daoqiang, all the other siblings object to Shuiqing dating Jane. Yishou does not reveal that the box of snacks is Daohan’s. He is remanded, while Shuiqing and Jiajia are allowed to leave. Shuiqing trusts Yishou. Daohan calls home and is shocked by the update. Chu’er helps Jiajia set Huo up, so that they can obtain evidence that incriminates Huo and his gang. Daohan returns to Singapore and hands the packet Terence had given her to Try. Just then, the Narcotics officers turn up. To Daohan’s disappointment, Try claims the drugs belong to her. Moved by the concern showered on her, she decides to put her loss behind her. Try is about to be sentenced. Ye Feng asks Daohan to see him one last time. Daomei is moved by Ye Feng’s magnanimity in trying to fulfil his last wish, despite being his ex-girlfriend. Out of respect for Ye Feng, Daohan chooses not to see Try again. Shuiqing delivers the popiah to the beach, especially for Daohan. Moved, she asks Daomei to make egg rolls with her, to repay his kindness. Together, they make such a mess that Yishou has to help them out. Daohan refuses to clean up after they are done. While helping Jiajia, Shuiqing gets a cut on his left arm. He refuses to see a doctor and the wound gets inflamed. Daoqiang and Daohan are shopping for ingredients for the reunion dinner when they meet Cong, who is intellectually disabled. They give him a treat, as he is hungry, and soon realise he has no idea where he lives. Shuiqing gets himself discharged early, as he wants to prepare the reunion dinner. Jiajia asks Hua-jie to make tea. Just then, the kitchen pipe bursts. | |||

| Jinhua and Daomei blame each other for the burst pipe. Jiajia decides to ask Yishou for help, as the kitchen cannot be used at all. Daoqiang and Daohan manage to find a telephone number on Cong and learn about his situation from his mother, Yanfang. She hands them cookies and refuses to accept any payment. Back home, Daoqiang and Daohan relate Yanfang and Cong’s story to the family. Shuiqing declares there are many ways they can help the mother-and-son pair. Yishou repairs the pipe. He tries out Yanfang’s cookies and finds the taste familiar. Daohan goes to the hawker centre to buy cookies from Yanfang to give away to the elderly. Yet again, Yanfang refuses to accept payment. Daohan feels bad and decides to take Cong home for the reunion dinner. To their surprise, Daohan and the others discover that Cong and Yishou are brothers. | It’s the first day of Chinese New Year. The Zhuangs get up early to give New Year greetings to Shuiqing. Daohan wants to wake Daomei up but is stopped by Jiajia, who cites that it’s taboo to do so on the first day of the New Year. Jiajia cooks longevity noodles instead of porridge for everyone, as it is both auspicious and healthy. The lobby is in a mess. Hua-jie is frustrated for not being able to clean it up because of another Chinese New Year taboo. Yishou suggests putting the rubbish aside for the time being. Dashou reminds Daomei she cannot visit her parents’ home on the first day of New Year as it might bring poverty upon them. Shuiqing dismisses the superstition with a laugh. Yanfang is unable to forgive Yishou for his past mistakes. She throws him out when he visits her. Hua-jie asks Daomei for a loan. Daomei hesitates, as it is unlucky to mark the New Year with debt-related issues. Shuiqing lends the money to Hua-jie by giving her a red packet. He accuses Dashou of conning her when he sees her giving the money to him. | |||

| Hua-jie needs money because Xiaoqi is being blackmailed for selling imitation items for her tuition teacher. Daoqiang and the others lure the blackmailer out, and it turns out to be the tuition teacher. The tuition teacher begs for pardon but Shuiqing feels they should not be lenient, and turns him over to the police. Daomei is cold towards Daren when he calls from overseas because he has been taking care of his injured ex-wife and she thinks their love might be rekindled. Daomei confesses to Shuiqing that she did not complete her studies and cannot be a psychologist. He understands her hardships, and tells her that he only wants her to be happy. Yishou hires a caregiver to look after his father and his intellectually-challenged younger brother. Her burden lightened, Yanfang comes to trust that he has turned over a new leaf and reconciles with him. Shuiqing is unable to contact Daoren. She leaves in a huff when Dashou makes offensive remarks. Daohan organises a date for Yishou and Amy, but he tells Amy that he likes Daohan. Infuriated, the heartbroken Amy ends her friendship with Daohan, whom she feels is making a laughing stock of her. Daohan tells Yishou it’s impossible for them to be together. He is so sad that Daohan regrets her forthrightness. Hua-jie panics when Xiaoqi runs away from home. Jiajia finds out the child is hiding in Dashou’s room. Xiaoqi shares that she had left home because her mother scolded her. With Jiajia’s help, she finally understands her mother’s concern and apologises. Shuiqing makes popiah again. Yishou calls Daohan and asks her to visit his mother, who has been hospitalised after a fainting spell. Daohan is on her way to a meeting with sponsors, but decides to hand the assignment over to Amy. Yishou rushes to the hospital from the airport. He is supposed to discuss a joint venture with an Indonesian businessman, but decides to give it up as family is more important. The sponsors accept Daohan’s proposal for the programme. She credits Amy and wants her to host the show, but Amy insists Daohan should take centrestage. They finally clear their misunderstanding. Yishou reveals he is learning baking only to help Daohan in her cafe. Overhearing, Daohan is deeply moved. Troublemaker claims he wants to quit school to learn comic drawing. Daoqiang advises him against it. The cafe opens, and Yishou is happy Daohan’s dream is finally fulfilled. Jiajia invests in a food court stall to help Hua-jie start a business. Hua-jie is receptive at first, but when she finds out she was mistaken as a thief, she quits in a rage. They find out later that Shuiqing had misappropriated the cash and made a loan to Daohan, but had no recollection of this whatsoever. As a result, Hua-jie was maligned. Shuiqing steals Jiajia’s house keys and finds Daoren consuming drugs. Father and son share a heartfelt moment, and Shuiqing decides to stay to help him. Certain Daoren needs professional help, Yishou suggests Daohan report him to the authorities. Her determination inspires Troublemaker to return to high jump practice. On account of her commendable attitude, Daoqiang makes an exception and allows her pass the fitness test. Managing their expectations more realistically, Dashou and Xiuyan buy a house in the suburbs. After another setback with Uncle Wang, Daohan encourages Yishou to speak up. Uncle Wang admits he is stubborn and forgives Yishou. He reveals his disability is attributable to Ziye, not Yishou. A heavy burden is lifted off Yishou’s shoulders, but he says he will continue to look after Uncle Wang. Shuiqing commends Uncle Wang for lying about Ziye being responsible for his disability, so that Yishou would feel less guilty. Yishou calls on Meigui to help Daoren resolve his issues, but to no avail. Yishou and Daoqiang prompt Daoren not to disappoint Meigui. Daoqiang reveals she had returned Daoren’s $1 million to him, to safeguard Daoren’s shares. Daoren is upset he misunderstood her. Daoren proposes reviving his bird’s nest business. Taken aback, the family objects, but Yishou offers to enter into a joint venture with him. Yishou takes Daoren to see Meigui. They are surprised to find her selling beads. Daoren asks why she is no longer in insurance. She snaps at him and leaves. Yishou and Daohan agree to reopen the cafe. | Jiajia is unhurt but panics and wants to move out immediately. Before leaving, she requests extended time-off from Shuiqing. Daohan fails her driving test for the seventh time. Daoren advises her to see a doctor to overcome her phobias. In turn, she and Yishou advise him to undergo surgery for his injury, He is unwilling. Daohan buys Yishou a new bed without his knowledge. Daoren asks Yishou how he had found Meigui, Yishou explains that it was by chance. He suspects something is going wrong in her life, and prompts Daoren to pay more attention to her. A middle-aged lady buys 10 strings of beads from Meigui. Finding her familiar, Meigui follows her. She discovers Daoren is behind the ruse and chides him. Yet again, she rejects his request to patch up. Subject to Daoren’s persistent questioning, Meigui confesses that Henry had drugged and raped her. Upon returning home, Daoren ignores Yishou and vents his anger in the room. When Yishou expresses concern, he shouts at him. Daoren grabs a knife from the kitchen and sets out to kill Henry. | Yishou finds Daoren gone. He calls Meigui immediately. Daoren follows Henry and prepares to kill him, but Meigui arrives just in time to intervene. Henry escapes. Daoren asks Meigui for a reconciliation. She laments that their relationship ended the moment he left. To everyone’s relief, Daoren returns safely. Shuiqing berates him and reminds him of the consequences of murder. Shuiqing visits Jiajia with herbal soup. She is thankful. All of a sudden, Jiajia experiences abdominal pain. Daoqiang persuades her to get it checked out. The foetus is safe, but the doctor finds a tumour in Jiajia’s cervix and advises her to abort the child. Daoren sneaks out with the intention of going back on drugs. Daohan stops him. She is convinced only Meigui can help Daoren turn over a new leaf. Daohan approaches Meigui, who hesitates to extend her help. However, when Daoren gives her a hand in selling her beads, she is moved, and agrees to patch up with him. | Dashou learns his organs will automatically be donated after his death. He hurriedly takes Xiuyan to fill an opt-out form with him. Daoren takes Meigui to the inn to help out. Everyone is pleased that they have made up. Shuiqing does not recognise Meigui. He secretly checks his notebook. Daohan tries to persuade Daoren to undergo surgery but to no avail. When Meigui threatens not to help at the inn if he does not have the operation, he reluctantly agrees. Jiajia feels guilty that Chu’er took time off and that Daoqiang had injured his leg looking after her. Shuiqing suddenly shows up with dinner. He says he recalls calling earlier, but in fact he did not. Chu’er realises Shuiqing did not cover the soup properly and most of it has spilled. His worsening condition frustrates him. Daoqiang tells Shuiqing about Jiajia’s cervical cancer and asks if he should save Jiajia or the child. He is greatly troubled over this. Jiajia is in pain but refuses to visit the hospital. Daoqiang opposes her intent to swop her life for the child’s. She apologises, but asserts they have to choose one or the other. | To everyone’s delight, Jiajia agrees to move back to the inn. Hongzhi tries to persuade Chu’er to take up the opportunity to film overseas. Jiajia reassures Chu’er that others can look after her now, but Chu’er insists on staying with her. Hongzhi finds out his performance opportunity is a scam. He and Chu’er rescue stray dogs together. Jiajia borrows Chu’er’s video camera to record a message for her future child. Shuiqing tries to persuade Jiajia to make her own health a priority, but to no avail. He is sure her husband will be blamed if she sacrifices herself for the child. Daohan informs Shuiqing that Daoren has agreed to undergo surgery. Shuiqing tells her about Jiajia’s cervical cancer. She tries to convince Jiajia to undergo surgery. Jiajia berates Daoqiang for disclosing her secret. | Jiajia loses her temper, and Daoqiang apologises for divulging her secret. Still upset, Chu’er refuses to answer Jiajia’s phone calls. Unexpectedly, Shuiqing tells her that Daoren is adopted. Chu’er confides in Hongzhi about Jiajia’s cancer. Saying that Jiajia is very noble, Hongzhi shares that his mother died giving birth to him. Jiajia lends her support to Chu’er’s fundraising efforts and they patch up. Chu’er asks Jiajia to go on a trip to Europe with her but long-distance travel is inconvenient at her stage of pregnancy. Chu’er mentions seeing Daoqiang in a daze in the park. When Jiajia finds him, he reveals he has taken time off because he cannot focus at work and wants to get used to life without her. She is deeply upset. Fearing no one will be able to look after him, Shuiqing makes arrangements to stay at a nursing home in the future. This adds to Jiajia’s guilt, and she decides to abort the child. Before his surgery, Daoren makes Meigui promise not to leave him if the surgery fails; she agrees. He calls on Meigui, but she is resolute. Daohan tells Daoren Shuiqing’s worries and that his yearning for Daoren had partially caused his dementia. Daoren is guilt-stricken. Later, he learns about Jiajia’s abortion and decides he should look after the inn. Jiajia notices Meigui going in and out of the hospital and follows her. She reveals Henry will only donate his liver if she dates him. Xiangqin notices Meigui grieving over Daoren’s photo. Daoren visits and apologises to Xiangqin, as the doctor has rejected his liver because he has just had surgery. She entrusts her daughter to him. Meigui is deeply affected. Xiangqin pretends she wants to eat and asks Meigui to go out and buy her food. When she and Daoren return, Xiangqin is dead. Dashou accidentally knocks Fu-sao’s dog down. Fu-sao flies into a rage. Dashou suggests he buy her another one but soon retracts his offer because a new dog is too expensive. Dashou bumps into Chu’er and Hongzhi raising funds for stray dogs. They arrange to give a dog to Fu-sao. Daoren notices the dog and wishes he could adopt one too. Jiajia advises him to ask Shuiqing for permission. He tells Daoren earnestly that the family loves him. Daoren expresses his gratitude to Shuiqing; he does not want to bother the family further. Urging him to stay, Shuiqing says he always treated Daoren as his own. Daoren confesses that he never wishes to leave the family. Yishou proposes to Daohan. | Daoren and Meigui get back into the buffet business again. For the time being, he shelves the idea of looking for his biological parents. Shuiqing loses his ability to write. His fears for his future deepen. To fulfil his wishes, Daohan promises to get married within a month. Xiuyan’s beloved cat has lymphoma, which is expensive to treat. Dashou feels it is not worth their while to spend so much money and time on a cat. Returning home one day, she finds her cat is missing, and assumes he has abandoned it. They quarrel. In fact, Dashou is worried about the cat too, and has tried to pawn his watch so as to be able to pay for the treatment. Shuiqing pities him, and lends him some money. Xiuyan finds the cat and realises she has wrongly doubted Dashou. Guilt-stricken, she decides to put the cat to sleep. He finds out and saves the cat, just in time. Yishou and his mother visit Shuiqing to discuss Yishou and Daohan’s marriage. Shuiqing’s only condition is for Yishou to be faithful. Daohan takes Ah Cong to the riverside. Ah Cong and another kid, Ah Le, fall into the river. She saves Ah Le first. When she returns for Ah Cong, he cannot be found. | |||

Shuiqing’s dementia worsens. Daoren sends a text message to Daohan, asking her to come home. Yishou and Yanfang visit Daoren. Everyone is finally told Yanfang is Daoren’s biological mother. Daoren refuses to acknowledge her and turns to leave. Yishou chases after him. He tries to talk Daoren round, but Daoren only accepts him as his brother. Daoren returns home. Shuiqing relates Yanfang’s difficulties, but he is unmoved. The next day, to please Daoren, Yanfang cooks for him. He remains indifferent. Daohan brings a man home, saying she has found happiness. | Everyone has the misconstrued impression that Daohan has a new boyfriend. She clears the misunderstanding. Troublemaker moves out as he is embarrassed about occupying Daohan’s room. To make things worse, Shuiqing doesn’t recognise him anymore. Daoren plans a surprise proposal for Meigui. He changes tack when she sees through his plan. Yishou is so dejected that Yanfang offers to relent and forgive Daohan. She tosses a coin before Ah Cong’s tablet to confirm her decision. Daohan, who happens to drop by to pay her respects to Ah Cong, watches and is unable to accept Yanfang’s course of action. Daohan is astonished to learn Daoren and Yishou are biological brothers. The doctor informs Jiajia she has fully recovered, but her chances of having a baby are very slim. Jiajia is disappointed and Daoqiang consoles her. Jiajia is worried about Troublemaker. With Daoqiang, she goes looking for him. They find out his house has been repossessed, and that his father had frequently abused him. Shuiqing gets lost while looking for Troublemaker. He bumps into Yishou, who is taking his parents home. Yishou offers to take Shuiqing home. He asks the three of them to wait for him under a tree while he fetches the car. Unexpectedly, a tree branch breaks. At that critical moment, Yishou is only able to save his parents. Daohan arrives at the scene, only to witness Shuiqing being crushed. | |||

| Thinking Shuiqing is dead, Daohan is distraught with grief. She reproaches Yishou. Fortunately, Shuiqing has only sustained grazes. Daohan, Daoren and the family encourage Shuiqing to find a companion. They regret preventing Shuiqing from dating Jane. Daohan meets up with Jane and relates Shuiqing’s current situation. However, she already found someone else. Daohan returns home with a heavy heart. She is filled with remorse, but Shuiqing has already forgotten about Jane. Meigui accepts Daoren’s proposal. They reunite with Yishou and his parents. Yishou wants to patch up with Daohan. She rejects him, and insists it’s impossible to go back. Daomei comes back with her family and claims they will stay permanently. Yishou returns to work at the inn. Only then does Daohan believe he truly wants to start afresh.
