List of Bangladesh Premier League captains

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). As of 9 January 2019, 37 players have captained their team in at least one match.[1]

Mashrafe Mortaza has captained Dhaka Gladiators, Comilla Victorians and Rangpur Riders in the BPL and has the record of playing most matches as captain. He also has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL of those who have played as a captain for at least 10 matches.

Notable captains

Mashrafe Mortaza, the captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team since 2014,[2] has played the most matches as a captain, having led all 62 matches in which he has played. While Mosharraf Hossain of the Dhaka Gladiators and Shoaib Malik of Comilla Victorians are tied for the best win–loss percentage in the BPL as a captain, each with 100%, both have only captained for one match. Of those who have captained for at least 10 matches, Mashrafe Mortaza has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL, with a win–loss percentage of 66.12% from 62 matches. Mortaza also leads in number of matches won as a captain with 41 wins. Of those who have captained at least 10 matches, Shahriar Nafees has the worst win–loss percentage of 28.00% from 14 matches. Mahmudullah Riyad, former captain of the Barisal Bulls and Chittagong Kings and current captain of the Khulna Titans, has lost the most matches with 29 losses.

Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Tamim Iqbal, Alok Kapali, Mortaza, Shahriar Nafees, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah Riyad Misbah-ul-Haq, are the only players who have captained two or more teams. Rahim has captained different teams every season and is the only captain to have led six teams in BPL which are Duronto Rajshahi, Sylhet Royals, the Sylhet Super Stars, Barisal Bulls, Sylhet Super Stars and Chittagong Kings.[1] Peter Trego of the Sylhet Royals has captained his team for the most matches without registering a win; he led his team in five matches which resulted in five losses.

Of the 37 players who have played at least one match as a captain, 19 of them are from Bangladesh. Of the 16 others, four are from Sri Lanka, three each are from Australia and Pakistan, two from New Zealand and one each from Afghanistan, West Indies, England and Zimbabwe.[1]

The list includes those players who have captained their team in at least one BPL match. The list is initially organised by the number of matches as a captain and if the numbers are tied, the list is sorted by win–loss percentage. If still tied then they are sorted by their last name.[lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3]
