History

The predecessor of the Liceu Ludgero Lima was the Liceu Nacional Infante Dom Henrique, which was opened on 19 November 1917.[3] At first it was installed in the house of Senator Cruz, the current Centro Nacional de Artesanato e Design. In 1921 it was moved to the former military barracks in the city centre, the Liceu Velho. The school was closed in 1937, and reopened the same year as Liceu Gil Eanes.[2]:53-54 The Liceu Gil Eanes moved to its current building in 1967. It was renamed Liceu Ludgero Lima in May 1975.[3] As of 2018, the building and the furniture are in urgent need of rehabilitation.[1]
