Early life

Kunal Karan Kapoor was born on 22 August 1982 in Mumbai. At the age of 9, his mother passed away. At about the age of 13 he watched Steven Spielberg's famed film Jurassic Park[4]". This film inspired him to enter glamour world to be a director one day. He managed to get a small role as a child actor in an episode of Doordarshan serial Rajani. Kunal Karan Kapoor studied English Literature in SIES college, Mumbai. He also worked in a Call-centre at Wipro, Powai. Meanwhile he kept auditioning for acting chances to enter entertainment industry.

Career

In 2004, as an adult Kunal Karan Kapoor debuted in his first TV serial Remix[5] aired on Star One channel. Theme of Remix was high school students life, mental and cultural differences between them and friendship in school and hostel. Kapoor played a good hearted, stuttering nerd student Varun in it. Remix was a big success, it also marked entry of many new actors in TV industry like Raj Singh Arora, Karan Wahi, Priya Wal , Gaurav Gupta etc. After Remix, Kapoor got another TV serial Left Right Left[6] for Sab TV in 2006. Left Right Left was based on army trainee cadets life. Kapoor played cadet Yaduvansh Sahni, a young man who wants to prove that he can make it on his own, but is a misfit in the academy. His character gradually transforms into a trained, determined army man. Some actors from these two shows became lifelong friends for him.

Around this time his name Kunal Kapoor clashed with Film actor Kunal Kapoor. To avoid this confusion Kapoor added his father Karan's name in between and changed his screen name to Kunal Karan Kapoor[7].

In 2008 he appeared in serial Meet Mila De Rabba[8] as Monty for Sony Entertainment Television. In 2009 he played a small time street thief Sukhi Singh in TV serial Maayka for Zee Anmol.

By this time Kunal Karan Kapoor wanted to break the typecast to show versatility of his acting prowess. So he accepted the role of the villain Angad Yadav in TV serial Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya[9] for StarPlus. Angad Yadav was an out and out street goon, with no conscience at all. Kunal Karan Kapoor's acting was appreciated in Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya.[10] He was to do few episodes, but the character became so popular that the makers extended his character. In 2010 he played Amrik Singh in Colors TV serial's Rishton Se Badi Pratha, as a friend of hero.

For personal reasons Kunal Karan Kapoor didn't take any show for about a year.

Established Actor

At the end of year 2011, he got lead role in Colors TV serial Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha. Kapoor had given an audition for same production house some time ago and Sudhir Sharma of Sunshine Productions saw that audition tape. He felt Kunal Karan Kapoor was best suited for the role and against all odds and opposition he choose Kapoor to play male lead opposite a new-find stage actress Aakanksha Singh. Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha started airing from 9 January 2012. Kapoor played role of a rustic, carefree, righteous reporter Mohan Bhatnagar. Kapoor's versatile acting talent was recognized and applauded by TV industry fraternity, media and masses equally. His role was later termed Iconic and serial as Cult show.[11] At public demand Na Bole Tum na maine kuch kaha's[12] second season aired from 14 January 2013.

4 May 2013 Kapoor won Best Male Actor Award[13] in a lead role at Indian Telly Awards 2013, for his role of Mohan Bhatnagar. In 2015 he worked in Doli Armaano Ki[14] as Shaurya Sinha, owner and editor of a newspaper. He had worked with the same production house before in Maan ki awaaz Pratigya. and Rishton Se Badi Pratha.. In 2018 he appeared as a corrupt police inspector Krishna Shekhawat in Zee TV serial Woh Apna Sa.[15]

In 2019 Kapoor entered web space and acted in Web series The Raikar Case,[16] a family mystery thriller. This web series released on OTT platform Voot Select[17] in April 9, 2020.
