Kota Shrine (Niigata)
Kota Shrine (居多神社, Kota-jinja) is the Japanese Shinto shrine in Jōetsu, Niigata Prefecture.[1][2]

History
Kota was one of the chief Shinto shrines (ichinomiya) of the old Echigo Province. It serves today as one of the ichinomiya of Niigata Prefecture.[3] The enshrined kami are:
- Ookuninushi no kami (大国主神)[1]
- Nunagawahime no mikoto (奴奈川姫命)[1]
- Takeminakata no mikoto (建御名方命)[1]
Shinran found refuge at Kota-jinja when he was exiled from Kyoto in 1207.[1]
