According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 38.7 square miles (100.3 km²), of which, 38.7 square miles (100.3 km²) of it is land and 0.03% is water.

At the 2000 census there were 2,033 people, 752 households, and 578 families living in the town. The population density was 52.5 people per square mile (20.3/km²). There were 795 housing units at an average density of 20.5 per square mile (7.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.77% White, 0.30% Native American, 0.15% Asian, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.15%.[2]

Of the 752 households 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.6% were married couples living together, 3.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% were non-families. 19.1% of households were one person and 7.2% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.12.

The age distribution was 26.9% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% 65 or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 108.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.7 males.

The median household income was $55,114 and the median family income was $60,610. Males had a median income of $38,448 versus $25,197 for females. The per capita income for the town was $21,126. About 2.1% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.1% of those under age 18 and 5.4% of those age 65 or over.
