Kharka Bahadur Limbu
Subedar Major Kharka Bahadur Limbu, AC,MC was a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in Indian Army who was posthumously awarded Ashoka Chakra for an act of Gallantry in Nagaland.[1]

Early life
Subedar Major Kharka Bahadur Limbu was born in Mantri village in Imphal district of Manipur.
Military career
Subedar Major Kharka Bahadur Limbu joined the British Indian Army in Assam Rifles on 05 December, 1929. He also took part in many operations and wars including the second world war.
Second World war
He took part in the during the World War II in Burma Campaign and was given the gallantry award, Military Cross by the British for his extraordinary bravery during the battle. He was the son of Shri Arthvir Limbu. Subedar Major Limbu developed into a committed soldier and earned the respect of his officers and men under him as well.
In the year 1961, he had been promoted to the rank of Subedar Major. He was evolved into a dependable junior commissioned officer with his superior field-craft skills and substantial experience in warfare.
Naga Insurgency
Subedar Major Kharaka Bahadur Limbu was a squad commander posted in Naga Hills. He was instructed to capture an area that was well dug-in, well blockade and situated in an out of reach of jungle ravine. Subedar Major Limbu manifested to attack early in the morning. While facing the enemy he didn't bothered about his personal safety, and choose to suffuse the hostile fire to reach the stockade. He beat a portion of the stockade and with a handful of men stormed the nearest bunker. Limbu attacked the defenders, shooting down two of them and capturing their weapons. During the course of the attack, he was severely injured, but pushed himself forward bravely and pitched two grenades into a bunker and then shot down three more quarrelsome. He continued to motivate his men to break the defences and destroy the hostiles till he yielded to his injuries.

Subedar Major Kharaka Bahadur Limbu made of leadership, bravery and gallantry and was later awarded the highest peace time gallantry award of India, Ashok Chakra.
