Kayode Oladele

Kayode Oladele (born June 8, 1963) is a Nigerian human rights activist, lawyer and politician who was a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives representing Yewa North and Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, Ogun State, southwestern [[Nigeria] from 2015-2019. He was the Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Financial Crimes and member of the House Committees on Justice, Human Rights, Rules and Business, Environment, Healthcare Services and Agricultural Institutions respectively..[1][2] He was elected as member of the National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress on 11 April 2015.[3]. Prior to that, he was Chief of Staff, office of the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a Nigerian law enforcement agency that investigates financial crimes, advance fee fraud, cybercrime, terrorism financing and money laundering.

He is a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Counselor-at-law of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He is best known for representing the plaintiffs in the international human rights violation case brought by a group of Nigerians including the mover of Nigeria's independence motion in 1956, Chief Anthony Enahoro, human rights activist, Chief Arthur Nwankwo and Hafsat Abiola-Costello, daughter of the winner of the 1993 presidential election in Nigeria, Chief M.K.O Abiola against a former military ruler in Nigeria, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar before a United States’ Federal Court ( Enahoro v. Abubakar, 408 F.3d 877 (7th Cir. 2005), Abiola v. Abubakar, 267 F. Supp. 2d 907, 910 (N.D. Ill. 2003), Abiola v. Abubakar, 435 F. Supp. 2d 830 (N.D. Ill. 2006), Abubakar V Enahoro, 546 U.S. 1175 (2006), C.A. 7th Cir. Certiorari denied).

In 2009, Kayode Oladele was appointed by the Federal Government of Nigeria to liaise with the relevant United States’ authorities with regard to the Halliburton bribery investigation. In 2010, he was appointed by the Government of Nigeria to hold watching brief in the criminal trial of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (Arabic: عمر فاروق عبد المطلب‎ )(born December 22, 1986) popularly referred to as the "Underwear Bomber", a young Nigerian who, at the age of 23, confessed to and was convicted of attempting to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear while on board Northwest Airlines Flight 253, en route from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, on Christmas Day, 2009.
