KRIZ is one for The Z Twins, two radio stations serving the Puget Sound region, most notably the African-American communities of King and Pierce County, Washington.
The Z Twins were so named as, at the time, the company only owned two stations, KRIZ and KZIZ. But after KYIZ signed on, the name stuck, despite now having three stations in the family.
In 2016, KZIZ was sold to XL Media and now has a South Asian format.
KRIZ shares its studios with KYIZ and in the city's Central District east of downtown, and its transmitter is located in Renton.
As KSCR
KRIZ originally began in 1982 as KSCR with the slogan South (King) County Radio & had an Adult Contemporary music format. Today, the KSCR calls belong to a station in Eugene, Oregon.
