She practiced before both state and federal courts and handled a wide variety of matters including appeals, class actions and complex commercial litigation.[3][4]

On September 19, 2012, President Obama nominated Dorsey to serve as a United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Nevada, to the seat vacated by Judge Larry R. In March 2012, she allegedly made a $2,500 donation to Senator Reid's campaign, a donation that was returned to her a month later because Reid was considering her for a district attorney nomination. The following day, his partner Kemp made a $100,000 donation to a PAC, and another partner gave $50,000 to the same PAC two weeks later.[2]
