The hotel, which was built in 1973, is also a notable location for conferences and meetings, exhibitions,[1] and weddings and anniversaries. The hotel has 9 conference rooms for these events. The hotel is also affiliated with American Airlines.[2]

The hotel has a number of special deluxe suites. These include the Deluxe Junior Suite, Royal Junior Suite, Royal One Bedroom Suite and the Royal Luxury Suite.

The hotel was the site of the death of Pakistan's cricket coach Bob Woolmer during the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Months of investigation by Jamaica's Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields and Scotland Yard failed to produce agreement on the cause of death.[3] The jury convened to conduct the inquest into Woolmer's death concluded that there was insufficient evidence to return a verdict either of murder or of death by natural causes.[4]
