Jama Mosque, Dharamshala

Jama Mosque is one of the biggest mosque in Himachal Pradesh located in Kotwali Bazar, Dharamshala, India.[1]

History

Jama Masjid (mosque), Dharamsala was built by Janab Ghulam Rasool in the year 1719 AD. The 1905 Kangra earthquake damaged the masjid and its dome. At that time Ahle Islam committee took the charge and renovates the damaged part of the masjid and further people started offering prayers regularly.[2]

Description

In 1995, masjid Aman-e- Awam welfare committee was established and salat (obligatory five times prayer) in this masjid continued. In the same year regular Imam, Muhammad Kamil Jamie Sb was posted. Till date Jamie Sb served very dedicatedly for this masjid and start preaching Islam to the Muslims of all nearby villages and work in the whole Kangra district. Between Period of 1947 to 1995 there was only one masjid in Yol cantt where Salat-ul-jumuah (Community Prayer offered once in a week at noon on every Friday) and Salatul Eieden prayers was organized. Now there are 67 points where people can perform their Juma prayers in Kangra district
