Equestrian

Italy had six competitors at the first Olympic equestrian events. The names of three are known. Trissino competed twice in the high jump, on different horses, as well as jumping. Di Modrone competed in the long jump and jumping, and appears to have competed in the high jump twice as well.[2] Elvira Guerra, Italy's first female Olympian, competed in the hacks and hunter combined. Additional Italian riders competed in the high jump and jumping competitions.

  2. According to both Mallon and de Wael, there were 18 entrants in the event, 5 of which were Italian. De Wael contends that all 18 competed. Trissino competed twice. Assuming the unknown equestrian competed once, di Modrone must have entered the event twice.
  3. Stagliano advanced as an alternate to the semifinals when Dutertre withdrew.
