Isri is a census town in Dumri CD Block in Dumri sub-division of Giridih district in the Indian state of Jharkhand.

Overview

Isri Bazar is the main market of the block and is situated on NH 19 (old NH 2)/ Grand Trunk Road. The railway station is called Parasnath on the Grand Chord. Parasnath Hills is well known for Jain temples. Parasnath is a major destination for Jain pilgrims.

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India, Isri had a population of 9,749. There were 5,088 males and 4,661 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 897 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 4.[1]

As of 2001 India census,[2] Isri had a population of 8,796. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Isri has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 57%. In Isri, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

As of 2011 census, the total number of literates in Isri was 6,872, out of which 3,794 were males and 3,078 were females.[1]
