I Am the Bullgod

"I Am the Bullgod" is a rap metal song by Kid Rock, first released in 1993 on his Fire It Up EP, and later appearing on his 1998 breakout album Devil Without a Cause.

Music

"I Am the Bullgod", according to AXS, was a tribute to the band Monster Magnet.[1] The song also appeared on the vinyl release of The Polyfuze Method and in 1998, the vocals were re-recorded for Kid Rock's fourth studio album, Devil Without a Cause, where one line was changed in the song ("I would like to learn but I can't be taught" to "You can bid all day but I can't be bought").[2]

This version of the song is featured in the EA Sports American football video game Madden NFL 10.[3]

Reception

azcentral described the song's style as Southern rock, with elements of funk.[4] Billboard described the song as stoner rock.[5] MTV compared the song to a cross between Alice in Chains and Public Enemy.[6]

["He subsequently spent the rest of the '90s drifting in and out of indie deals, founding his own Top Dog label in 1993, and releasing the before-its-time Alice in Chains-ish rap-metal "I Am the Bullgod." That song, half a decade later, became Devil's calling card to FM America. "You gotta give radio something they can understand," Rock explains, "even if it is five years old. But with my record, I couldn't go to radio and be like, 'Well, here's an old-school rap song.' I had to give 'em something they'd understand right away, something they could work with.""]
