Hyundai Sigma engine

The Hyundai Sigma engine is a series of V6 piston engines from Hyundai Motor Company, based on the Mitsubishi 6G7 engine. The Sigma engine family began life with the simple V6 name. Displacement ranges from 2.5 to 3.5 L (2,497 to 3,497 cc).

2.5

The DOHC G6AV (also called the 2.5 D) is the small 2,497 cc (2.5 L; 152.4 cu in) version. Bore is 83.5 mm (3.29 in) and stroke is shared with the 3.0 L (2,972 cc) at 76 mm (2.99 in). Output is 162 PS (119 kW; 160 hp) at 6000 rpm and 20.8 kg⋅m (204 N⋅m; 150 lbf⋅ft) at 4500 rpm.

3.0

The DOHC G6AT and G6CT (also called the 3.0 D) both displace 2,972 cc (3.0 L; 181.4 cu in). They share the 2.5's 76 mm (2.99 in) stroke but use a larger 91.1 mm (3.59 in) bore. Output for the older G6AT is 185 PS (136 kW; 182 hp) at 6000 rpm and 24.6 kg⋅m (241 N⋅m; 178 lbf⋅ft) at 4500 rpm, while the G6CT produces 192 PS (141 kW; 189 hp) at 6000 rpm and 26.5 kg⋅m (260 N⋅m; 192 lbf⋅ft) at 4000 rpm.

The older SOHC G6AT 3.0 S produces just 160 PS (118 kW; 158 hp) at 5000 rpm and 24.5 kg⋅m (240 N⋅m; 177 lbf⋅ft) at 3000 rpm.

3.5

The G6AU and G6CU (both also called the 3.5 D ) are the large 3,497 cc (3.5 L; 213.4 cu in) versions of the Sigma engine. Bore and stroke are both larger at 93 mm × 85.8 mm (3.66 in × 3.38 in), respectively. Output is 203 PS (149 kW; 200 hp) at 5500 rpm and 29.6 kg⋅m (290 N⋅m; 214 lbf⋅ft) at 4800 rpm for the older G6AU V6 and 220 PS (162 kW; 217 hp) at 5500 rpm and 32 kg⋅m (314 N⋅m; 231 lbf⋅ft) at 3500 rpm for the new G6CU Sigma.

The 3.5 D has a cast iron engine block and aluminum DOHC cylinder heads. It uses Multi-port fuel injection, has 4 valves per cylinder, and features forged steel connecting rods. It is designed to run on "regular" unleaded gasoline rather than the premium fuel used in many other high-output V6 engines.

The US-market version produces 197 PS (145 kW; 194 hp) at 5500 rpm with 30.3 kg⋅m (297 N⋅m; 219 lbf⋅ft) of torque at 3500 rpm. It was introduced with the Kia Sedona minivan in 2001.
