Hungry Ghosts (TV series)

Hungry Ghosts is an Australian drama horror series, set to screen on SBS in 2020. The four-part miniseries is directed by Shawn Seet and produced by Stephen Corvini and Timothy Hobart with executive producers Sue Masters and Debbie Lee. The series is written by Timothy Hobart, Michelle Lee, Alan Nguyen, Jeremy Nguyen and John Ridley.[1]

Synopsis

Hungry Ghosts is a chilling, character driven ghost story that explores the lives of three generations of Vietnamese Australian families, all haunted by the traumatic events of war.[2] The series begins on the eve of the Hungry Ghost Festival in Melbourne when a powerful amulet is broken and a vengeful spirit Quang is unleashed, wreaking havoc across the community. May Le is an aspiring chef who begins to understand that she has the power to control the evil spirits.[3] Her best friend is Roxy, a trans woman and gifted clairvoyant.[3] Stella Le is May's estranged mother.[4] Ben Williams is a first-year doctor who encounters May.[3]

Sophie Tran is a bio med student who is possessed by evil spirits. She is the daughter of refugees, Sang and Diane Tran[5] and her older sister is Tracy Tran.[4] Daniel Nguyen is a third-generation Vietnamese Australian with identity struggles father is Paul Nguyen.[4]

Neil Stockton is a photographer famous for his collection of Vietnam War photographs, who has a daughter Liz.[3]
