Horoměřice

Horoměřice is a small village and municipality in Prague-West District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, being situated on the north-western border of Prague. It is located between Prague city districts Suchdol, Lysolaje, Nebušice, Přední Kopanina, and municipalities of Statenice and Únětice from the other side.

It lies in the open countryside surrounded with beautiful fields and forests. Besides, there are three small ponds within the village.

History

Based on the historical evidence, the first mentioning about the village of Horoměřice dates back to 1273. Back then it was owned by the Strahov Monastery. Today in the central part of Horoměřice there is a simple castle from the 18th century, which belonged to Strahov Monastery until 1945.

In the past, the village inhabitants were agricultural workers. Although the village is surrounded by fields, today almost none of the inhabitants are agricultural workers.

Also it's worth mentioning, Horoměřice is known as the birthplace of Benedikt Roezl, a famous botanist and orchids collector.

Nowadays

Horoměřice is rather small but growing village, the municipality covers an area of 8.04 km² and as of 01/2018 it has a population of 4,100.

Today Horoměřice is a nice village to live with all necessary supplements: there are kindergartens, primary schools, a pharmacy, GP doctor's office, post office, grocery shops (one supermarket and some small groceries), car service, hotel and restaurants.

Last 10 years the western part of the village is growing significantly with fully new family houses and apartment buildings. It makes the village more modern and cozy. A very close location to Prague border makes the village a very favorable place to live, therefore the price for the land and properties raised significantly last years.

The majority of inhabitants now work in Prague traveling there every day. Greatly set public transport allow to do it in an easy and fast way - average travel to the closes Prague metro can take 7–15 minutes by bus depending from which bus stop in Horoměřice to travel.
