The Company is ISO certified since 2010 and has its corporate office in Mumbai. The company conducts the HDFC ERGO Insurance Awareness Award Junior Quiz, to educate and spread insurance awareness among school students. History

HDFC Ltd. And ERGO International AG formed a joint venture firm named HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Limited. ERGO became a 49% stakeholder in the Company in 2015, which made the firms paid-up capital of ₹6,054,221,000

Technology

The firm's website has an AI-based chatbot DIA which can answer many of the queries. HDFC ERGO General Insurance has adopted the Robotics process automation and voice analytics to improve customer experience. With these technologies, the company claims to process health insurance in 15 minutes and issues Health and Motor Insurance Policies to the customers within 5 minutes through the digital platforms. A mobile application, the Insurance Portfolio Organiser (IPO) app, has also been built and offers its services based on geo-location.

Acquisitions

L&T General Insurance was acquired by HDFC ERGO in June 2016, for around ₹551 crore and the merger completed on 23 August 2017.

HDFC completed the acquisition of majority stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance in January 2020 for ₹1,495.81 crore, with the new entity renamed as HDFC ERGO Health Insurance Ltd (HDFC ERGO Health), subsequently intending to merge with HDFC ERGO General as a single entity.

Awards and Recognitions

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company has been rated iAAA for its highest claims-paying ability by ICRA. The Company is certified with ISO 9001:2008 for its operations and services in Customer Experience Management and Claims Management. The company has also been awarded the Best General Insurance Company in India by IAIR (International Alternative Investment Review) in 2013 and 2014, and also won the ICAI award for “Excellence in Financial Reporting”.
