Goverdhan Mehta

Goverdhan Mehta FNA, FASc, FRS, FRSC (born 26 June 1943) is a noted Indian researcher and chemical scientist.

Career

Mehta received his BSc and MSc from the University of Rajasthan and PhD from Pune University.[1] He has authored more than 400 research papers. He has received the Trieste prize.[2]

Controversy

In 2006, the U. S. government refused Mehta a visa; this decision was strongly criticised by Indian and American scientists.[3][4][5][6]

  • He is a recipient of the Indian Government's Padma Shri Award.[2]
  • He has received the French award of Légion d'honneur.[2]
  • In 1995, he became the first Indian scientist to receive the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award.[7]
  • He has received H.K. Firodia Award for Science & Technology.
  • He is the recipient of Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award in Chemical Sciences.
  • He has been conferred with Germany�s prestigious Cross of the Order of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) Award.
