Biography

Rabbi Gershon Edelstein was born in Shumyachi, Russia on April 18, 1923; his father was Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah Edelstein.[1]

Rabbi Edelstein studied in the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, under Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky. He later became the rosh yeshiva, a post he holds today, alongside Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky, and thousands of students and visitors go to him regularly.[2] After Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, the spiritual leader of the Degel Hatorah political party, passed away in 2017, Rabbi Edelstein became the new leader.[3] He also sits on the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in Israel.
