Gabi Novak

Gabrijela "Gabi" Novak (pronounced [ɡâbi nôʋaːk]; born 8 July 1936) is a prominent Croatian pop and jazz singer. She became famous in the 1960s. She was the wife of legendary Croatian singer-songwriter Arsen Dedić, with whom she was married from March 1973, until his death in August 2015.

Biography

Born in Berlin into a family of father Đuro, a Croat born in Hvar, and a mother Elizabeth, a German also born in Berlin, Novak spent her childhood in her hometown, but later she moved to Yugoslavia. Her father was killed in 1945.

Novak was married to the prominent composer Stipica Kalogjera, but in 1970 they were divorced. In March 1973 she married Arsen Dedić,[1] a renowned singer-songwriter who also composed many of her songs.[2] The couple has one son Matija, a renowned jazz pianist.
