From Ashes to New

From Ashes to New is an American rock band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The band's lineup frequently shifts, vocalist Matt Brandyberry being the founding and sole constant member. The band has released two studio albums, Day One (2016) and The Future (2018), and has found success with some of its singles, including "Through It All" and "Crazy", which have reached number 6 and 3 respectively on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart.[1]

History

From Ashes to New was formed in 2013 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, releasing an eponymous extended play.[2] In 2015, they released a second extended play, Downfall, as a taste of their debut album, set to be released in 2016.[3] Day One was released on February 26, 2016.[4] A deluxe edition was released on November 18, 2016 which contains the acoustic version of "Lost and Alone" and along with new tracks.[5] This deluxe edition was exclusively digital, with no Compact Disc or LP Record versions available.

The band has recorded a song with CFO$, "Hail the Crown", the main theme song for WWE 205 Live.[6]

On December 2016, the band began recording for their second studio album. On March 11, 2017, the band has stated that Tim D'onofrio and Chris Musser will be stepping away from the band while Mat Madiro has stepped in as their new drummer.[7] The band began looking for a new lead singer through social media websites. After a series of auditions submitted by fans, Danny Case was revealed and chosen as the new lead singer on July 13, 2017.[8]

On February 1, 2018, "Crazy" was released and was their first single from their second album, The Future. The album was released on April 20, 2018.[9] The album debuted at number 163 on the Billboard 200 chart.[2]

On October 4, 2019, a remix of The Hu's "Yuve Yuve Yu" was released, featuring new vocals by Case.[10]

Musical style and influences

From Ashes to New has been described as rap metal,[11][12] nu metal[13][14] rap rock[2] and alternative metal.[15] The band's music also features elements of genres such as alternative, punk, hard rock, heavy metal, hip-hop and electronica.[12][16][17][18]

The band's influences include Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Korn, Skrillex, Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Eminem, DMX, Drag-On, Pantera, Glassjaw, Alexisonfire, Alice in Chains, Of Mice & Men, and Linkin Park.[19][20][21][22]
