"Experience" is a song recorded by American singers Victoria Monét, Khalid and British singer/record producer SG Lewis, released as the lead single from the former's upcoming debut studio album Jaguar on June 19, 2020.[3][4] It follows several singles released earlier in 2020 by Victoria Monét and Khalid's 2019 album Free Spirit.

Background

On June 16, 2020, in a statement written by Monét posted to both her and Robinson's Instagram accounts, they announced that their untitled song would be released on June 19 on Friday.[5] "To be honest, we've gone back and forth about releasing this song because of the disgusting and confusing state of the world," the statement reads. Noting that June is both Black Music Month and Pride Month, Monét explained that she feels "my queer identity is another important celebration for me." She went on to express that while the struggles of LGBTQ+ community and the African-American community "are not the same, but they share the inspiring persistence in the relentless pursuit to be heard and seen, especially in difficult times like these." Monét concluded the message on Instagram with a "heartwarming" line, "We hope this brings some solace and joy to you. We hope the double ended message of this song is heard: based on experience, we want change!"[6][7]
