Ratugolea was born in Griffith, New South Wales. His parents are Fijian, and arrived in Australia a few years before his birth. At the age of six, Ratugolea moved to Cobram, Victoria. He only began playing football in 2011, after previously playing rugby and soccer. Ratugolea cost Geelong the game in round 3 2020 by punching the ball back into play when Tom Hawkins had the ball going through for a goal. This resulted in the cats losing by 2 points when they could've won by 4 points[4][5]
