The building was originally known as the Brother Athanasius Sports Complex, named after Br. Lucian Athanasius, a past president of De La Salle College Manila. In January 2003, the university received a P50 million donation from its alumnus Enrique Razon, Jr. for sports development, which included funds for scholarships and improvement of physical facilities. From the total amount, P25 million was used to fully equip and air-condition the 9th floor gymnasium of the PE and Sports Complex, P20 million was allotted for athletic scholarships, and P5 million was used for a sports solidarity fund. The building was renamed in February 2003 as the Enrique M. Razon Sports Center after the late father of Razon who was an alumnus and athlete of De La Salle.[1]

Facilities

The ten-storey building is served by three passenger elevators that are located by the entrance. The ground floor houses the clinic and an Olympic-size swimming pool as well as its complementing locker rooms and shower areas. The second floor houses a bookstore, a canteen, as well as a balcony area for swimming pool spectators. The 3rd to 5th floors of the building are parking areas that can accommodate 345 cars, with room for 700 once hydraulic lifts are installed. The 3rd floor parking area is reserved for faculty members only.

The 6th floor houses a Gold's Gym facility which opened in late 2016.[2] The 7th floor houses the basketball, volleyball, and table tennis courts, the offices and lounge area of the Physical Education Department of the College of Education, and a classroom. The 8th floor houses classrooms, dance and martial arts studio, and a track and field oval/balcony area overlooking the 7th floor. Finally, the 9th level of the Razon building is the home to La Salle’s gymnasium, along with the Office of Sports Development (OSD), a weight training gym, and a staircase leading to more classrooms in the 10th floor.[3] The 9th and 10th floors are undergoing renovations which include a new OSD office space, a counseling room for Lasallian athletes, and a new coaches' lounge situated within the gym. The tentative timetable for the completion of renovations is between June and August of 2020.[4]

Recently all the De La Salle Green Archers championship banners and the retired numbers of Lim Eng Beng (#14, basketball), Manilla Santos (#14, volleyball), Ren-Ren Ritualo (#4, basketball) and Kurt Bachmann (#33, basketball) were raised to the rafters on this gym. In April 2019, the jersey of Table Tennis Olympian Ian Lariba was also raised to the rafters, the first time that DLSU retired a jersey of an athlete from a non-team sport.[5]
