Emerald - Musical Gems features vocalists Chloë Agnew, Susan McFadden, Lisa Lambe, and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt on the PBS Special. The songs on the album are re-recorded versions of songs previously covered by Celtic Woman. The album is the first of such to have re-recorded classics from other Celtic Woman albums- Voices of Angels also features re-recordings of classics.
As is the case for many Celtic Woman albums, backing vocals are provided by “Aontas Choir.” This is a changing group, the members of which are sometimes named in the printed materials for the album discs, but often not. Emerald has one of the smallest Aontas contingents. Its members are quickly listed in the video closing credits, but not in the printed materials for the CD or DVD. For Emerald Aontas was: Craig Ashurst, Edel Murphy, Dermot Kiernan and Sarah Gannon. Ms. Murphy later joined with Alexandria Sharpe and Lynn Hilary (of CW: Songs From the Heart) to form Cara Nua.
The album debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on its first week of release,[1] with around 10,000 copies sold in the United States. It also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums chart,[2] and No. 3 on the Independent Albums charts.[3] As of December 2015, the album has sold 73,000 copies in the US.[4]
