It stars Rebel Star Ambarish, Gouthami, Ramesh Aravind, Sundarakrishna Urs, Nagesh Kashyap, Shankar Rao, with Devaraj, Sadashiva Brahmavara, Honnavalli Krishna, Mandeep Rai, Kavya and Sunil Raoh in cameo roles. The film is loosely based on the 1866 Russian novel Crime and Punishment by well-known author Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It enjoys cult classic status in Kannada cinema industry.

Although this was an intellectual film (unlike a commercial film), it couldn't meet the expectations like some of the other commercial films that released that year. In an interview for a Kannada television channel in the 2010s, Ambareesh admits that there are times when such great films go down without notice despite the risk of non commercializing with such dedication only to see that it is a box office bomb. He also revealed that when people met him a few years later, they admitted to have appreciated it so much that he really wished they saw the film in theaters when it originally released.

Soundtrack

The music for the film was composed by carnatic musician L. Vaidyanathan.
