Electoral district of Northumberland Boroughs

Northumberland Boroughs was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales from 1856 to 1859, including the towns of Morpeth, East Maitland, and West Maitland, and named after Northumberland County. It elected two members simultaneously, with voters casting two votes and the first two candidates being elected.

Polling was conducted on 28 March 1856. Nichols represented this district in the old Legislative Council. Weekes contested the election on the grounds that more than 20 people who were unqualified to vote had voted for Russell. After investigating this claim, the Assembly's Elections and Qualifications Committee overturned the result and awarded the seat to Weekes.[6]

George Nichols died in September 1857.[2]
