Eastern Theater Command

The Eastern Theater Command is one of the five theater commands of the People's Liberation Army, founded on February 1, 2016; its predecessor is the Nanjing Military Region.

Its jurisdiction includes Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shanghai [1] and the East Sea Fleet.[2] It consists of three group armies:the 72nd Group Army (formerly 1st group army), 71st Group Army (formerly 12th group army), and 73rd Group Army (formerly 31st group army).[3] The ground force headquarter of the Eastern theater command is located in Fuzhou, Fujian, China.[4] The joint command headquarters is located in Nanjing.[1]

Its commander is General He Weidong and its political commissar is General He Ping.

Excluded from the Eastern Theater Command are the islands of Taiwan, Penghu, Quemoy and Lienchiang as these territories are under the jurisdiction of the Republic of China's Ground Forces
