Dibang River Bridge

The Dibang River Bridge is built across Dibang River system in India. This bridge is located in eastern part of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. As such, it is known by various names in the region such as Talon in Idu Mishmi and in Padam inhabited area it is known as Sikang. The bridge is constructed between Bomjir village and Malek village.

This bridge is of strategic importance to Indian defence services to combat anti-national activities and threat in the border areas, as it will provide all-weather connectivity between Roing and Dambuk.

History

In 2010, the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved the project for construction of bridges across Sikang river system and connecting road between Bomjir-Meka on NH-52, covering a length of 18.950 km.[1] NH-52 has been renumbered as National Highway 13 which is also known as Trans-Arunachal Highway.[2]

Location

This bridge spans across Sikang river system in Arunachal Pradesh. It is located in lower dibang valley district of Arunachal Pradesh.[3]

Project development

Expenditure on the project is to be incurred out of the budget allocations for Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North Eastern Region.[4] The 750 crore rupees project has seen disruptions due to resistance from locals.[3] As on February, 2018, the bridge was undergoing technical tests to get approval for functioning.[5][6][7]
