Death

After the clash between the police teams and the PKK near the Vazelon Monastery in Maçka's Köprüyanı neighborhood, the PKK-affiliated group entered a house in the region to obtain supplies. Eren Bülbül saw the group as they entered the house and notifies the gendarmerie and the police team about the situation. Bülbül then accompanied the security forces to show the house that the PKK had entered, but was killed together with the Gendarmerie Chief Sergeant Ferhat Gedik as a result of an attack by PKK.[4]

Eren's mother Ayşe Bülbül said there was negligence in handling the situation and taking her son to that place was a mistake: "Taking Eren there was not 100%, but 1000% recklessness. I want the prime minister, the minister and the authorities to explain why Eren was taken there. My child wanted to be a martyr, but he wanted to be a martyr while in the army, not in front of a door."[5]

Legacy

On 25 June 2019, Turkish Airlines launched a survey on Twitter to name the new Boeing 787 aircraft.[6] Among the options suggested in the survey were ancient city names such as Perga, Assos, Göbekli Tepe, and Zeugma, but Eren Bülbül's name was not included in the list. When many Twitter users initiated a campaign to put the name Eren Bülbül on the plane, Turkish Airlines responded by naming the plane after Bülbül's hometown Maçka.[7][8]
