Career

College and amateur

Steres started playing soccer with a U-11 team and played with the same team to U-19, during which the club won a Dallas Cup championship.[3] He played four years for Calabasas High School.[1] He twice was a Maramonte League selection and was all-California Interscholastic Federation.

Steres played four years of college soccer at San Diego State University between 2008 and 2011.[4] In 2009, he was All-Pac-10 (Honorable Mention), Pac-10 All-Academic Team (Honorable Mention), and in 2010, he was All-Pac-10 (Second Team).

Professional

Steres was drafted 28th in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by Chivas USA, but did not earn a contract with the team.[5] He was selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the 2012 MLS Waiver Draft and signed with the club on June 23, 2012, and mostly played at center back for the team.[6][7]

In 2013 with the Wilmington Hammerheads, Steres led the team in goals with seven and had three assists.[8] He received the team's Most Valuable Player award and was named to the 2013 USL PRO All-League Second Team.[8] In the 2014 season, Steres signed for LA Galaxy II and in the following season, he was named captain.[3] He led the Galaxy to their first USL Championship final. During the two seasons he was with LA Galaxy II, Steres was named Defender of the Year in both seasons.[9]

After two seasons with LA Galaxy's reserve team, Steres was rewarded with a first-team contract on December 17, 2015.[10] He scored in his debut against DC United on a corner kick from Mike Magee. The goal started a come-from-behind win.[11]
