Conasauga, Georgia

Conasauga is an extinct town in Gilmer County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.[1]

History

Conasauga is the site of a former Cherokee settlement.[2] "Conasauga" is a name derived from the Cherokee language meaning "grass".[3] Variant names are "Connasauga", "Connesauga", "Connesawga", and "Cunasagee".[1] A post office called "Connesauga" was established in 1880, and remained in operation until 1909.[4]
