Career

Scott had been Queensland's regular fullback since 1979 and retained his place for the 1980 State of Origin game, the first ever game played under State of Origin rules.

Scott played at fullback for Wynnum-Manly in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership's grand final victory of 1982. Several years' good service in Queensland's state teams (and injury to incumbent 1982 Kangaroo Tour fullback Greg Brentnall) spring-boarded Wynnum-Manly's Colin Scott into the Australian Test side for the second Test match against New Zealand in 1983 at Lang Park. Despite 25 appearances for his state during his career (including 18 State of Origin appearances), Scott did not represent Australia again. By the time the Broncos were admitted to the New South Wales Rugby League premiership, his top class career was all but over and he left the club after only one season.

Scott played for the Queensland Maroons in both the old State-of-Residence games and State of Origin from 1979-1987 until losing his place to former Souths Magpies and then Canberra Raiders fullback Gary Belcher in 1986, though he was recalled to the team on the wing for the 1987 State of Origin series, mostly due to injury (broken arm) to regular Maroons centre and goal kicker Mal Meninga. During the series, Scott came in for heavy criticism for his poor goal kicking. Scott played his last game for Qld from the bench in the exhibition "Game 4" of the 1987 series in Long Beach, California.[2]

In 2000, Scott was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to Australia's international standing in rugby league.

England County Cup Final appearances

Colin Scott played fullback in Castleford's 18-22 defeat by Hull Kingston Rovers in the 1985 Yorkshire County Cup Final during the 1985–86 season at Headingley Rugby Stadium, Leeds on Sunday 27 October 1985, and played fullback in the 31-24 victory over Hull F.C. in the 1986 Yorkshire County Cup Final during the 1986–87 season at Headingley Rugby Stadium, Leeds on Saturday 11 October 1986.
