Christian Bella

Christian Bella also known as "Mfalme Wa Masauti" (swahili for "King of Melodies") or Bella is a Tanzanian-based singer, song-writer, vocalist and dancer. Christina Bella has his roots from DRC Congo.[1] He is famous for hit songs like "Yako Wapi Mapenzi" and "Nani Kama Mama" where he proved his worth of the nickname "Mfalme wa Masauti" in the way he could manipulate his voice in them and touched a niche in Tanzanian music that had long missed an artist to fill in.

Career And Life

At age 15, Bella had started singing and at the time led a music band called Chateau which was owned by a close friend of Papa Wemba. In the band, Bella and his team composed songs and dances with among others Fally Ipupa. However, after some time, Fally left the band to join the legendary musician Koffi Olomide.

At age 16, he expressed interest to join Koffi’s team and was accepted. He unfortunately couldn't get to show his musical talent while there resulting into him leaving the group.

Bella fled to Tanzania from DRC following sustained economic and political unrest in the country's capital of Kinshasa which threatened the music industry forcing recording studios to shutdown consequently killing record pressing plants out business due to severely diminished demand for vinyl.[2] In Tanzania, he joined Akudo Impact - a successful music band from Tanzania with hope of one day returning to Koffi Olomide’s team.

While at Akudo Impact, Bella released his first single "Walimwengu si Binadamu", which introduced him to the Tanzanian music industry. He then later released "Yako Wapi Mapenzi" single, which became a big hit and cemented his position and decision to remain in Tanzania.[3]

Christian Bella has since worked with several artistes including; Koffi Olomide, Hamisa Mobetto, Khaligraph Jones, Ali Kiba, A.Y., Mwana FA among others. At the moment, he heads the Malaika Music Band based in Dar es Salaam.[4]
