Shweir

Dhour Shweir or Choueir (Arabic: ضهور الشوير) is the name of a small town in the Matn region of Mount Sannine, Lebanon. Located in the shadow of the mountain overlooking Beirut and the Mediterranean Sea.

Most of the town signs use the Choueir and Dhour Choueir spelling.

People from this town have spread around the world through emigration but are still closely tied together through family contacts, periodic visits to Dhour Shweir, and their websites.

The Town has also the most advanced public secondary school in Lebanon: Dhour Shweir Public Secondary School.


The town is well known as a "resort town" where people live during the summer months. This town is also famous for being the hometown of Naameh Yafeth, Tanios Bou-Nader Khneisser and Antun Saadeh, the founder of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP).

A famous native of the town is Abraham Rihbany (1869-1944), a writer on politics and religion.
