The club was founded in 2003 as youth academy. They formed a partnership with MLS club Chicago Fire FC in 2014.[2] They also are affiliated with several local Chicago clubs who each run youth teams under their own names, but part of the FC United Development program.[3]

In 2017, they added a team in the PDL, now the USL League Two, replacing the departing Chicago Fire Premier, after the Fire decided to relinquish their ties to the PDL.[4]
