Celebrity Infinity

GTS Celebrity Infinity is a Millennium-class cruise ship owned and operated by Celebrity Cruises. She was launched on June 9, 2000[2] as Infinity, and renamed Celebrity Infinity in 2007.

History

Celebrity Infinity originally featured a restaurant with original fixtures and china from the legendary ocean liner SS The United States, which still holds the transatlantic speed record to this day. However, it was later replaced with Tuscan Grille, a restaurant pioneered on the company's Solstice-class ships.[3]

On 2011 December, the ship gets a $30 million makeover following its dry dock on Bahamas, Infinity has now with new features.[4] On 2015 October, Celebrity Cruises announced that they are upgrading and renovating of $8 Million refreshes of ship's summit alongside with Celebrity Summit.[5] On December, the cruise ship has received a chic rooftop terrace as part of $16 million in work to two ships, where it debuts Rooftop Terrace.[6] the ship is scheduled to finish a major renovation in November 2020.[7] The ship has been pushed back of renovation of the Celebrity Eclipse to spring 2021,[8] with the cruise undergoing a $500 million modernization, there's also a musical line up of '80s music and others of Groove Cruise Miami event at the cruise.[9]

The ship was toped by the Business Insider as top 8 cruise ship's with the best food.[10]

Itineraries

On 2017, the ship has bene sailing in Alaska for a several years.[11] As of summer 2019, Celebrity Infinity rotates between sailing the Mediterranean in the summer seasons[12] and the Caribbean from Miami during the rest of the calendar year.

Incidents

2016 accident

On June 3, 2016, Celebrity Infinity was docking in Ketchikan, Alaska, and crashed into the dock on the port side, causing a hole in the ship's hull above the waterline, and heavily damaging the dock. Winds were gusting to 45 miles per hour from the ship's starboard side at the time of the accident, which accelerated the ship's approach. There were no injuries.[13] In addition to the damage to the ship, the collision caused $2–3 million in damage to the dock.[14]

Coronavirus pandemic

On March 23, 2020, Two crew members were tested positive of COVID-19 and raising crew member's concern about whether the ship puts them at risk.[15][16] On April 14, crew members filed a lawsuit over their poor COVID-19 response after a crew member died.[17]
