Album history

This was rumored as a duet album (like Papito by Spanish singer Miguel Bosé). But in early March, the first official details from the album were released. In this report that the label made public, the first promotional picture was shown, and that it would be an album with all new songs. It was also revealed that Manuel Alejandro participated in the production and composition.

However, on April 1 of the same year, new details were mentioned. The name Cómplices was made official name for the album, revealing that the release date will be May 6. Also, a radio station on United States played what is seem to be the actual single. It was played in a very popular Latin radio show. And again, the piracy made that the song was made to be found complete on internet. By April 2, the song was very popular on the Internet. As a consequence of this, is rumoured that Warner Music executives decide to change the date of the single release. The release was officially made in USA at April 3. In Latin America and Europe, it was still April 7.

"Si Tu Te Atreves" (If You Dare) was released worldwide finally on April 7, 2008, which debuted on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks at number 23. On April 27, the video of "Si Tu Te Atreves" made a huge success in the Latin music. Also, with the video, it was made official that in Spain the release date it was changed to May 2.

Release

It was released on May 2 in Spain, and on May 6 in all other countries. Cómplices sold almost 350,000 copies and won 4 platinum discs for the sales of the CD in just the first 24 hours of the release.[3][4] On May 6, Miguel made a press conference on the Casino Español in Mexico City to officially release the album.

By May 14, 2008, Cómplices made the Billboard 200 in the United States as the singer's highest charting album ever (surpassing his peak at number 14 in 1997 with Romances). The set took a bow at No. 10 with 32,000 copies, which also gives Miguel his eighth No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart.[5]

On December 4, 2008, this album received a nomination for Best Pop Latin Album at the Grammy Awards of 2009.

Promotion

Complices Tour was a concert tour by the Mexican singer Luis Miguel to promote his last album Cómplices. On this tour, Luis Miguel performed his last pop and ballad songs, his Mexican songs, and also his back-catalogue. He visited the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and also he made his first appearance in Toronto, Canada (70% of the seats were sold in less than 24 hours); also he tried to break his record of most consecutive sold-out concerts in the National Auditorium in Mexico City.
